I know it kills you not to want to take your daughter's hand as she wants, but your doing the right thing for her though.

Oh man!! I can’t imagine the pain dad suffers to not take her hand and lead her. He knows he won’t always be there for her and she has to learn it on her own. I can’t imagine the tears after doing this video. Brave family!

In the UK there are very few canes for children and this is the only one from the RNIB other than a symbol cane (which we know Ellie will break in not time!!). We have just come into contact with someone who can loan us a lighter cane from the US which we are eager to try. Ellie is pretty much self taught and is really loving her cane ;-)

Hello Ellie! My name is Tom and I am from Denmark. I think you are a very brave girl and so are you parents. I am much older than you (56 years) I had very very much problens learning using my cane but I am so happy I did even though it was tuff and I was afraid of many high noices and things that surpriced me. But learning using my cane made my life so happy and I can do so many things all by ny self, for exampel I play guitar and sing for many many people! I wish you fun and laughter in your future! Your laugh is very sweet!

It's impressive that 2.5yo knows "left" and "right". I know it's important for her to know directions while learning to navigate her surroundings but it's still impressive as most kids learn to differentiate them around age 4 to 5

Google Translate is not so good on this one! i think the translation is saying that you think the cane is too small, heavy and wide for Ellie's hand? Thanks for the feedback. We have recently got a new mobility officer in our area and she feels the cane is too long, but we went for this size after your feedback on the pink cane which was getting too short ;-)

OMG How Cute is she :) I think the cane is a bit big for her but she is handling it like a pro soooo sweet are you using a squeak toy for your wear bouts ? I have a 4 year old who is completely blind and Autistic I use foot tapping or hand tapping for him to know were I am :) she is so brave and adventuress :)

hey there I'm Sam what a cute little girl I wonder if she is totally blind or does she have some remaining vision? I'm visually impaired myself however I still have a substantial amount of usable eyesight for the United States every October we have something called white cane day it's where people can participate and put themselves in the shoes of a blind person it's like being blind for a day or at least a couple of hours and you get to use a white cane I do currently use an identification cane on certain occasions just to let people know that I'm visually impaired however I wouldn't mind putting on the sleep shades for a day or for a couple of hours to see life from The Blind Side and use a full Mobility cane.

We have a DIY step by step explanation on our website how to build a much better cane than available anywhere in the world. It is rigid, simple, only 25 or 30€, very light (below 100g) and durable: link: anderes-sehen.de/akustische-orientierung-mobilitat/bauanleitung-fur-kinderlangstock/ A children's cane should have the length of the child's total height. The grip should be 20cm or 25cm so the child can hold the cane more in front for some situations (when slow, in a crowd or on steps)
