Another thing I learned about soldering especially when doing motorcycles when you have 5+ wires to do at once is go ahead and put a bit of solder on the end of each wire on each side and the go back and just melt the solder together instead of trying to hold the wires together. Works best when dealing with smaller wires

@answer2222 жыл бұрын
Hey @ChrisFix, awesome video! There is one small thing to note about the magnetic switch you have linked in the description - there is a possibility of that switch failing early in its life due to the continuous current draw through it. If the average current draw of the powered LED strip is 5A @ 12V, the continuous power will be 60W (5A * 12V = 60W). The wire included with that switch is 22AWG, which is definitely fine to handle that ( 6.5A, 300V rated). However, the magnetics inside the switch may not be rated to handle that much current for extended periods of time. With that being said, because you've added the second kill switch, and because people probably won't keep these lights on for long stretches, this is probably not a issue to be worried about. Just wanted to throw in some thoughts!
@chrisfix Жыл бұрын

Hey @Chrisfix, I've been following your channel and projects for years, I've always been impressed by your willingness to demonstrate how to do things correctly and not take short cuts. Until this one. As always I was impressed in your methods and how you demonstrate the different way to do thing, crimp w/heat shrink, solder, you did miss in this case heat shrink with solder inside it already. However I was disappointed in the way you grounded the switch in this project. The ground is the point of failure with this project. It should have been tied into a ground point with a proper ring terminal similar to the way it was connected to the battery. the way you connected the ground will corrode or break in short order. apart from that good work, and I look forward to future project.

i ordered the the switch you had on the links, The lights them-self (link) didn't work, And when i got the switch in the link, it did not have the same colored wires, nor did it have a diagram, making it a challenge, i also didn't want the magnet switch, felt it was a possible future problem, which added to the install adventure trying to figure out the wiring paths for night light switch and the lights them-self, I found some Bedliner lights them-self at O'Rielys, (8 cubes of 6 lights each), along with the 6 foot gap of spacing for opposite side made it totally hidden and even more professional. the illuminated night light on switch makes it so clear in the dark when you open it, no hunting around. But Thank You for the Info, just adjusted it to suite me, Super helpful, and everyone that has seen it on or walking by at the store when its on think it Factory done
