How to Install a Hidden Kill Switch in your Car or Truck (Cheap Anti Theft System)

Instead of installing an expensive car alarm system or using ineffective methods to prevent your car from getting stolen, learn how to install an inexpensive, hidden kill switch. simplisafe.com/...
This kill switch is easy to install and anyone can do it at home with basic tools. It can also work along with your car's current alarm system. How it works is it cuts the power to the fuel pump so you cannot jump start the car, hot wire it, or even push start it. In order to steal the car you need to tow it! It is better than a batter quick disconnect because your computer wont restart and you wont lose your radio stations.

Chris what about a video on how to protect your sideview from being stolen. I know of a lot of case where the mirror itself was stolen not the housing. I saw a company that sells very nice looking protector that cover the border of the mirror so that you cant pull them out but they cost 200 dollars. I really liked this kill switch video. This will definitely be my next project.

This is gold. My dad used to do this to his cars by using the cigarette lighter. The car wouldn't start unless the cigarette lighter was pushed in. The thing I like about the fuel pump method is that the thief doesn't know for sure if there's a kill switch - there could just be something else wrong with the car. And the repeated attempts at turning it over make a lot of noise, which is when they get introduced to your baseball bat.
@badboyz6584

Sounds like a perfect introduction! Also, put a big sock over your baseball bat, that way, if someone grabs it, they just grab the sock.

From an old Air Force electronics teacher and electronics technician, just to add a small bit to your comprehensive presentation: We always had to read aloud a "caution" about probing connectors. If you've never probed a connector with multimeter leads, it's possible to damage the connector. Just do this part with a little extra care so as not to damage the connector. Excellent video - thanks!

True story. I had a 1990 Toyota Camry stick shift. One day I found some punks broke into it, jammed the ignition to ON. But obviously the car didn't move because these young punks had no idea how to even start a stick shift, not to say drive one. This was in California.

Years ago I had a 1968 GTO. For a kill switch, I just ran a wire from the ignition coil to a toggle switch and grounded it out. Worked like a charm. Times were much simpler with that generation of vehicles..no electronics, no computers, no endless array of sensors...just a lot of engine.

My grandpa had a lot of classic cars and would essentially make the cigarette lighter a kill switch/start button. When it was in the slot and pushed in the car started, so he'd just take the cigarette lighter with him when parked around town somewhere. In 1995 my 95 Pathfinder was not stolen because I would disconnect the ignition coil main out line and replace the plastic cover which would hide the disconnected boot. This was done under the hood and required 15 seconds and no tools. I would recommend doing a switch like this under the hood, and having a hood lock installed. The method in this video is easily bypassed if the thief is familiar with the relay and sees the obvious foreign wires. Just clip at the relay and twist them together. Plus it's right there in the car and not locked under the hood

I worked on a valet lot once, and a customer had a "switch" on his car to prevent theft. It was not a classic car by any means, but the theft potential in his neighborhood necessitated the installation. His right rear door had to be open to start the car. Not just ajar, but open. So I'm not sure how that was accomplished. I don't know if the latch was the "switch," or possibly the dome light being activated (but only from the right rear door). Because most dome lights in older cars will stay on if a door is ajar. There was some sophistication that went into this design. Not the handiest idea but a thief couldn't just jump in and go. Chris, if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Love your vids man!

This is a great idea but could be implemented in a better way: add a 'momentary' push-to-make switch in the crank (or security) circuit. This way, it is automatically 'armed' when the motor is shut down (you don't need to remember to throw the kill switch). But moreover it avoids the potential danger of the fuel pump accidentally being stopped while you are driving (at which point you might miss your power steering and servo'ed brakes (if auto)).

You can still win. GPS welded into the frame with 1/4" steel plate and a separate battery that is charged by the main battery. GPS receivers draw very little power and you can easily run it for over a month even after they chopped the car. Show up with extra keys and buddies, take it in broad daylight as you can prove ownership and nobody else can. This avoids fighting for your car and the theif would have to identify themselves to stop you. A siren welded into the frame on an "always on" circuit, that activates permanently once a certain wire is unplugged. Any random wire will do, try to pick one on a valuable part that can be split where it isn't seen. Nobody ever chops a frame, and this makes it so they have to cut the frame (extremely loud) to make it stop. They'll dump the car ASAP or run My dad's Austin mini got chopped in his work parking lot while he was working. A loud noise would have saved his car and given him a chance to see how many people fit in the trunk :P

I worked at a Chevrolet dealer in the early 1990s. They sold an ignition cutoff switch system in “aftermarket” called Prolock. We must have sold hundreds of those a year. They cost near $1200. After a few weeks, I realized the complicated circuit board on an easy to remove key was only a switch. We would use a 180 bent paperclip To start cars when we didn’t have the proper key. When a customer didn’t buy the prolock, the service department would install the same chip without the handle for easy removal. These were so cheap, they were installed in every car but only a % bought them. However, clever people would not buy it and then acquire the key to replace with the dummy circuit board. Car dealerships can be such a scam! Thanks for the tip Chris, I need to do this in all my cars

Don't laugh. That happened to me a few years ago. Only I wasn't shifting gears, but cruising along at 75 mph on an interstate when all of a sudden the engine stalled. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I coasted to a stop and cranked the engine. It fired up, but stalled after a few seconds. OK, I'd been down this road before, in a manner of speaking. Reaching under the driver's seat, I felt the kill switch trio and sure enough, the fuel pump kill switch was off. My foot must have hit it. I flipped it back up, the engine started right up and I was on my way. I have since pushed the switches a bit further under the seat and kept reminding myself to keep my left foot away from the driver's seat.

He had a tracker, luckily and it was on a moving on a train to southern sweeden. He was on a call with the police the whole time. When they came to the trainstation in sweeden, and opened the exact container the tracker was. The m3 was there. And recovered. No damage. Another friend of my dad also got his bmw stolen. But this one was brand new in 2016 and he tracked it to a parkinglot in germany, the insurancecompany just paid him the money and didn’t care about the one in germany
