I never thought of sketching with a highlighter first. It gives such a cool effect, almost like a print or a digital piece

Yeah, I saw a dude on tiktok do art with just highlighters so I realized they could be used as an under painting but I still haven't use them in my own work yet.

How old are you people, five???? This is how we had to do things in the 60's and 70's, for newspapers, magazines, ads and other illustration. We didn't have freakin- digital, we had to know how to draw, how to wash, and how do to pages of accurate ads overnight. Y'all make me so tired sometimes.

chris i can't tell you how motivating it is to see an artist i admire so much encountering problems & adapting in real time instead of giving up. it helps me remember that the road to creating something impressive is messy & difficult, but the only thing needed is perseverance. thank you for posting the pieces you struggle with!

I’m screaming, these are absolutely AMAZING. I’m jealous of your skill despite using markers for the first time (I’ve been using them for 7 years and you’ve used techniques I’ve never even thought of!)

With such a big selection of markers maybe a big swatch sheet would be a good idea. Just on a separate piece of paper so you can reference it instead of swatching every time. Love watching you process both for full body studies and for portraits!

i took pointers from you, to make a named swatch sheet and to uncap them away from the paper to avoid the splatter.. i appreciate the natural pase and no music, reminds me it's good to be in a relaxed environment as someone w adhd. also was in awe the moment i opened the video, that first one is so nice, great color combinations
@Lisa_Flowers3 жыл бұрын
Might not be for you but I actually went ahead and labelled all my markers with a small swatch of the actual marker (done on sticker paper and stuck on the markers side) so that I know what shade they are when I look at them. No need to check a swatch paper everytime as the colour is right on the marker. It's a bit of a tedious task on the upfront but to me it's worth not having to constantly pick up and open and close markers to test colours!
@alphonzosolorzano50113 жыл бұрын
Good idea, like maybe using those small folder tab labels to swatch on and just stick on a marker each time you're using them so you're not doing the whole box at once?

Amazing as always! If you have troubles with remembering marker colors or you have too many of them to remember, try putting a lil piece of paper with color swatch on each one. Its tedious, but once its done its a lot easier, you just take the marker and check out your lil swatch on it. I used printer paper and then just taped it, tape on top of the paper. For me it was way easier than keeping a big swatch sheet and searching what is what (and also updating it regularly…), so i just went with separate lil swatch on each marker. Hope it helps! Sorry for the big ramble tho

This is the first time I’ve seen someone with the same tic that I do while drawing 😂😂 the little wrist stretch/rotation after drawing a couple lines right when you go in with that brown liner pen totally let’s me know you’re feeling nervous and therefore thinking really hard. When you were looking for a lighter color for the forehead in the 2nd portrait in my head I was like "colorless blender, colorless blender, colorless blender" the blender if you have 1 is no pigment marker and it tend to make the markers lighter...
