it's good, but it is not her. the painting is really nice, but she needs to improve her skills (i.e. forehead, nose and right face half shading, eyes, cheeks, neck). i believe that your foundation is wrong, the sketch you made at the beginning already shows facial mistakes (i.e. eye position compared to the ear, which resulted in a different nose, mouth and cheeks, and a different forehead). maybe you can improve that? because the painting shows anybody, but not that hoyeon jung that is a korean model. in fact, the painting looks almost western, but the reference photo does not @Chris Hong Art

Hey Grips Why’d you make this as a reply to someone instead of as an actual comment? And also, this is a study to help her ease into painting with watercolors. She wasn’t trying to make it absolutely perfect, or else she would’ve spent more time. She also mentioned she was going on a trip so maybe she was rushing a bit. Can you please not be so harsh? And what do you mean the painting looks western but the photo does not?
@MasterofScrutiny
@MasterofScrutiny 5 жыл бұрын
@@Soopknits the face has westernized features for instance the eyes are rounder and wider spaced than the model's. Although I find the painting beautiful, it's of a younger girl, maybe the model's little sister.

You can make shadows in a cool tone or in a warm tone. If you look closely on her forehead (the shadow part in the center) or her cheeks, you can see that the shadows are blueish/ purplish. It is is nice contrast to the warm sun and hair.

This is awesome and extremely informative and helpful, especially to those that have a better/easier time learning it visually! I‘ve been having trouble doing portraits, especially when it comes to edges and transitioning colors (like letting the colors bleed together), and watching the way you do and explain it makes it so much clearer. Aside from that, it‘s super relaxing to watch. Definitely needed to watch it after coming home from a long day. So.. Thank you!!!

Does your painting even have an ugly phase? It literally looks good as soon as you put the first brushstroke, that's amazing! Such a beautiful study. As about letting go a bit of the control when it comes to using watercolours, I totally get it, I started letting go a bit recently and I saw a huge difference. It looks more creative when you do, and you can show details by doing less, it is just a bit hard to no overdo it and ruin it in the end haha. :) Have a nice day!

If I want to dull an area to draw the eye towards somewhere else (e.g. the neck) I find using a thin base layer of dirty water (painting water, not whatever you may find in a puddle or in the kitchen sink) and then either drop your colors or letting the layer dry and glaze over it. Zbukivic does something similar with his landscapes where he starts his painting with a wet wash of grayed painting water.

I personally love when the graphite shows through, but that might just be because I need those guides to see where I’m painting 😅 I’m always in awe of people who paint with faint or no lines! And the dropping of colors into a wash is one of my favorite parts of painting with watercolors. Another great vid, Chris 💕

Hey Isis! I definitely agree that crediting photographer and model is important but usually when I come across these on Pinterest, there's no reference to who they are, and I have no idea how to go about finding that information. Often on instagram people refer me to who the model is and then I can go ahead and tag them in! The only reason why I don't make my Pinterest public is because I don't use it other than to find reference images.. but it is something I am considering doing since I've been asked to a couple of times! ^^

@@ChrisHongArt hi, Chris Thanks for answering! I'm agree, sometimes it's hard to keep track of the credits...😘 About the open Pinterest, the suggestion is to make a separate folder with references only, if you don't mind to share. Your work is really inspiring and I love the voice overs, always a nice companion to draw together. Thanks again for taking the time to answer, have a beautiful day!🐈

I like your eye for color and shape. You added details I didn't see at first. I haven't worked with watercolor in a long time too but your video gave me a little boost of confidence to do it. Thanks.

I'm 14 and the thing about being an artist is that you have inspiration everywhere well for me I'm not sure about anyone else... But like I'll be scrolling through instagram and see a person and the way they look and the features they have and I'll think to myself I want to draw a male or female like that.. But like with my paintings and Watercolour paintings I'll see a photo of a scenery or something and I'll want to paint it and IDK I just find that I guess calming.. Because I know I'm never going to run out of ideas. Also with all of the technology we have today there is always something we can look to for help like KZbin. Any one else haha??

"warm yellowish-orangy-pink" (23:15) Nice :) I like your style. Paint tubes should be labled this way. I sometimes call Red, "Not Green" ;) great job, friend!

Hi could you please share which type of sketchbook you used for this demo. ? As I’ve been looking at so many that doesn’t work with water well. Thank you so much

I see people in the comments saying the portrait study looks like Nayeon from TWICE, but to me, it kind of reminds me of Yeji from ITZY.

I do watercolour too and I feel a sort of fear in your hand, maybe you were scared of making mistakes. This painting needed a little more contraste and would be perfect. You are very talented. Congrats🥰🥰🥰🥰
