🇵🇰 Jode pakher takda, my Pakhtoon friends! In Pakistan, there is an ethnic group of people known as "Pathans/Pashtoons/Pakhtoons". They not always, but sometimes have very distinct features such as blue or green eyes, paler skin, and different colored hair. Their native language is also typically Pashto, and so many pakhtoons don't speak Urdu, or speak it as a second language. As such, when I put on traditional Pakistan sharwal qameez and a pakhtoon hat, and speak Urdu, despite sounding somewhat like a foreigner, people often think I myself am pakhtoon. So today I went to a market to become a pakhtoon. Enjoy.

Shining Wala Message: I have decided to move my non-Vietnam travel content to a second channel. If you enjoy these travel videos, please subscribe to Chris Lewis 2.0 (second travel channel): kzbin.info/door/oqGJPtvsPpALlhtqB1lcHAfeatured After a lot of thinking, I have decided to keep this current channel a Vietnam channel, and use this second channel as a travel channel. Good news? Same content as before, and double the amount. You'll get Vietnam videos plus travel videos, just on two different channels. The next few videos will still be on this channel, but then I will begin switching over in about a week. Cheers!

I live in Maryland and there is a pakistani community center (my apologies, I don't know if it was religious based or just for strong community) across the steet from my neighborhood. It took them maybe 2 years of remodelling the plot of land from 2-3 temporary trailers to a lovely community center. I was only a teen when it happened (36 now) and I still remember when my doorbell rang and it was a family from said community center, they just wanted to get to know the neighbors. They brought an apple pie, it was the sweetest thing I'd ever experienced as a person that wasn't my direct family. A family I never knew but from seeing drive to what I assume was their church, they didn't look like me, sound like me, talk like me or anything. But none of that mattered. They were the kindest family and their kids were more like me than I ever would have imagined. I only met them that one time, but when I'm out walking my dog I'll happily stop at the top of the neighborhood and smile and wave as the cavalcade of vehicles trickles in or out of their parking lot. Always happy families waving back smiling. Just wonderful people.

Hey Rahul there's a really interesting video about the Hazara region. I forget the name of the guy that made it but he's a white American guy with a shaved head and a very outgoing persona who has also made a few videos about the Amish, has a ton of videos. Recommend that video. Very interesting, particularly in terms of ethnic diversity - you'll see a guy who looks like a redhead from Scotland but he's totally Pakistani. Very intriguing. There's a really friendly guesthouse owner in the vid - I actually had no idea about that ethnic diversity.

Hi Chris, you are a lovely and kind hearted human being. Just a suggestion and word of caution, it's better not to casually say things like "I'm a pathan" loudly like at 12:06 and laughing and all that. As you can see locals don't usually on a daily basis experience what you are doing and they might interpret it wrong or think you are trying to mock a certain province or something (I hope you understand what I am saying I don't know how to explain it better). There is nothing technically wrong with what you are doing but over there, there are some people who will interpret it wrong and that can be dangerous. I am from Pakistan but live in the west but I know that certain tribes/provinces have a lot of tension between them.

35 years ago I lived in Saudi Arabia as a Manufacturer Rep, where I was attached to a company where 100% of the employees were Pakistani. I never tried to learn to speak, because in the building, some were speaking Urdu, some Punjabi and some Pashtoon - and it got confusing so I said to myself, "screw it." I regret that now. But I was heartened by this video. I'm amazed that I understood well over 50% of the dialogue, so I guess I retained much more than I thought. I realize that the dialogue in these "shopping in a foreign language to impress the native speakers" clips on KZbin is quite basic, but I might be motivated now to learn Urdu properly!

Hi Cris. We are a Pakistani-American family living in NJ. Your newest subscribers and biggest fans :) We love your Pakistani videos so much that we have binge-watched most of them in a very short amount of time. You are not only changing the image of Pakistan for the rest of the world but you are also changing the image of Americans in the eyes of all Pakistanis watching your videos. Please don't think that we don't notice all your subtle acts of kindness you do on the streets of Pakistan (like inviting the guy selling flowers to share your chocolate waffle, then buying flowers from him and leaving a big tip to help him out, encouraging the young kids selling waffles, accepting breakfast invitation by a rickshaw walla, then sitting down on the floor eating it and paying for it instead of letting him pay, buying juice for the kid on the beach and then taking it to him, giving the street barber Rs. 1000 when he asked for Rs 300 only.... and many more.) We have been living in the US for some time and know that most Americans are as kind-hearted as you are. We appreciate your generosity and would love to reciprocate. So here is my invitation to you. Whenever you are in the NY/NJ/Philly area, come stay with us. We live in central Jersey so we are only an hour from either NYC or Philadelphia. I promise you authentic Pakistani food and your favorite Chai. Just drop me an email (khawar@aol.com).... Best Regards and keep up the good work. PS: How does it feel to have a whole nation as your fan :)

Hello Chris. glad to have you here in Pakistan once again. I hope you are enjoying your time. For a genuine look of a Pathan try putting on a waistcoat with shalwar kameez and Peshawri chappal. The one Max had at a shop here in Peshawar. Moreover I would suggest shalwar kameez of a typical grey colour with grey waistcoat and brown Peshawri chappal. Put on the patani hat called pakool as well. In my opinion it would be a good combination suiting you for a patan look.

Tourism in Pakistan is not like tourism in the US. In Pakistan it seems they want to share their heritage and extend friendship. They seem to share rather than gauge for money. In the US, it’s push to sell things and trinkets to make money.
