I really love that you tried approaching Einar's singing in your video! I was looking forward to someone actually analyzing his voice for a long time, and I've been following you for some time already and I'm glad it was you who did it. I especially adore how he manages to go back and forth between this big, open chest voice and head voice and still manage to keep the volume and tone and, especially, to make it fit the music so well. It's incredible and quite unorthodox to use such sweet, angelic head voice in such a dark and heavy track. That being said, I have this impression that his 'growling' sections are somewhere between what you're doing and actual growl, it doesn't seem to have that much pitch. And I'm not entirely sure if he's doing it in a completely healthy fashion, since he's been quite reluctant to do it a lot live (for example they've been playing 'Rewind' without the screaming section for some time), but I might be wrong.
@TheHalfGlassFullGuy4 жыл бұрын
I think it has more to do with that he's trying to go more towards pure cleans, without the grit. Even if you compare the earlier albums to the most recent ones, you can really see that difference.

There is one song of Leprous which is very unknown because it's only on one of their demos which you can't really buy anymore and that song is called Aeolus Shadow. Einar is my favorite singer of all time, especially because of that song. Because of the beginning, to be exact. I think it's a C6 he's hitting there!😮 Soooo high, it's mesmerizing.

My approach to grit is actually really similar to his, nice to see someone else do the lower grit style without really changing the basic sound. Would Love to see Thornhill on here next. Right now I'm working on my transitioning in head and chest voice and a little fry on the side. This was very helpful. I'll definitely be following your stuff for more. As a side note, you got a killer voice yourself. I can tell you put the work in. Personally, I can't stand it when people say they weren't born with a voice when they can always train it, and I see it a lot. As a vocal coach, I'm sure that gets to you too. It's like giving up before even starting. And not everybody can afford lessons, so what you're doing is total awesomesauce. 👌🏻

Really nice job, especially explaining the screaming part. But I believe that Einar has a darker tone than yours in this video. And that is because his larynx is kept low throughout the song, even on the higher parts. He has a relaxed jaw while he is keeping his voice extremely well resonated. I believe that the screams are all done with a compressed diaphragm, but also with a relaxed jaw. All of this alogside a lowered larynx, mouth wide open, all in chest voice. My 2 cents

At the section with the false chords, I really hear a higher, steady harmonic tone coming from Einer. So in addition to everything you addressed, and I can't say with certainty but, I think he is making use of his soft pallet (maybe head voice techniques?) to emphasize a harmonic that sort of sounds like a whistle. I think of Nick McMaster of Krallice and Geryon who does low false chord growls yet there is a constant "whistle" present. Do you hear the same thing? What are your thoughts on recreating that?
@chrisliepe4 жыл бұрын
I have to confess, I don't hear soft palate engagement. I hear open throat... doesn't mean I'm right though either :) I think the higher layer is coming simply from the quality of his false cord engagement.
