Building up core muscles and endurance makes a lot of sense for any touring musician. (I think Marc has mentioned doing yoga as well for building and maintaining those core muscles.) Also, I’m curious-you teach that when learning how to discover/develop/find ones voice(in a nutshell, learning how to sing, lol), that imitation is the absolute worst approach, and I sure as s*** couldn’t agree more! I mentioned to you before but for those who might read this, imitation is exactly what I did for 15+ years, imitating as best as I could Jonny Craig’s voice. I had convinced myself that I was learning how to sing. But when I (thankfully)discovered you, I learned that I’ve done just the opposite, etching into stone some of the absolute worst vocal habits known to man; I mean 15 years of etching I did😂. My question is: Did Marc Martel find his voice by practicing imitating Freddy Mercury initially when first learning how to (not to mention getting Freddy’s voice spot on) initially OR had he already searched/discovered/developed his own voice, and thereafter proceeded on forward to work at/undoubtedly achieving THE spot on vocal replica of Freddy Mercury (at times even better imo) , ORRRR is reincarnation an actual real thing??? ….🤣ok ok, a little bit of facetiousness at the end there. But yeah bro, very curios to know what he did. Also, I’d seriously like to know what you did to achieve your vocal brilliance! Your voice is truly incredible! Like I would love to hear your story in detail; *your initial approach to vocals, *the progression(the beginning, all the way up to now), *building the vocal-soul-mentality, exc.. the good, the bad, all of it. Once again thank you! Take care brother.✌🏻

Marc had no idea Freddie existed when he was growing up and learning to sing. His vocal tone naturally resembles Freddie’s. He began receiving comparisons into his mid 20s, when his voice matured to a great degree. By then he was already touring with his own band “downhere.”

Great video but I think Chris should have asked Marc about subharmonics and how was Freddie able to sing with false vocal chords and true vocal chords both vibrating together at the same basically same as tuvan throat singers.
@pabloyanez3005 Жыл бұрын
Chris, If you don't mind I may say that Marc in this video said one uncorrected thing. When he said that he does running for helping lungs to keep notes for a long time. Lungs have no deal with sustaining notes, at least they can be trained for increasing resistance on stage but lungs only allow the breathing passage from the upper part to the diaphragma, that's where exactly notes find their sustain. Another one more stuff... but that's only my opinion; Marc has a limited voice... I mean that's just because he sounds like Freddie, his voice seems like Freddie's singing, so audience don't listen to Marc but Freddie. What I want to suggest to singers who begin to sing... guys try as possible as you can to find your own unique voice, don't try to emulate or being a copy of someone else. For instance I can recognize that's Chris singing because his voice is particular, no others have his voice. Be unique then, not the copy of somebody people already may have listened to.

Chris, I tried playing and singing THE RED , CHEVELLE the other night just acoustic. I picked that song to practice because he also does the vocal flip. Forgive me if there's a name for it lol, anyways it was so much easier to sing when using that flip. Almost effortless but I found myself in a different area where control comes in. I just wanted to thank you for pointing this out in a much simpler way. All the other songs a worked on were also much easier with this technique, I wish I would have stuck with singing this way years ago cuz I think I would have been farther as a singer. I hear Mark sing this way as well but it's harder to hear in his voice, my guess is after years of doing it you can make it more prominent or back away from it if you want, more subtle. If that makes sense. Thanks Chris

I think Marc is wonderful , but if you want to know how to get through a two hour set singing Queen songs, why not talk to Adam Lambert. He has been performing with Queen for the past 10 years!!!
@artfulstories2 жыл бұрын
Marc is an expert as well. He sings a full two-hour set, singing how Freddie sang IN STUDIO, NOT allowing himself the freedom in making choices that caters to greater ease of singing, WITHOUT any vocal breaks, as he sings lead on EVERY song, and he performs Queen a lot more than Adam does. Also, he carries the whole show, as he doesn't have the star power of Roger and Brian backing him!
@ThatllShowEm2 жыл бұрын
Marc has been doing 2 hour shows performing this music since 2012, when Roger Taylor hired him for the Queen Extravaganza. And, as Marc mentions in the video, he's aiming for the "energy" and high studio notes for the whole show, and dealing with the fans expecting to be reminded of Freddie Mercury when hearing Queen's music. So Marc is qualified to share from his experience here too. 😉 Adam Lambert doesn't have the expectations of trying to sound like Freddie Mercury with his performance, though we can learn from his style choices too. (And I believe Chris has done a video analysis of Adam's voice that you can go watch!)
@javanesepoutine2 жыл бұрын
Adam singing Queen songs but not singing them in the way they supposed to be sing. (Sorry my bad English)
@papabearM32 жыл бұрын
Because, in reality, Marc actually sings the entire 2 hr set, literally every song, whereas Adam has wardrobe changes and short resting periods during Brian’s guitar solos, Roger’s drum battle and various video projections with Freddie on screen. Marc has a short 5-7 min break during Tristan’s guitar solo. That’s all. Also, Marc sings 3-4x the amount of shows per year in comparison to Adam. Not to mention that Marc sings all the songs in the original key whereas Adam sings a couple of songs at a slower bpm tempo and/or a semitone down from the original. However, The video is about vocal practices and physical regiments that help supporting vocal health and longevity of a vocalist when handling a grueling touring/performing schedule. It is NOT about singing Queen for 2 hours.
