The Guelph Permeameter is a great piece of equipment, especially for deep tests, however for most shallow subsurface testing applications, the ETC Pask Permeameter is much faster to set up, provides results that are just as accurate, and is about 1/3 of the cost of the Guelph. Check our this article comparing the two devices, with a side-by-side video of the set-up process: dynamicmonitors.com/comparison-of-the-etc-pask-permeameter-to-the-guelph-permeameter/ Our permeameter is in use by engineering consulting firms, Provincial, State and County Health Departments, universities and colleges all over Canada and the USA and beyond. In the published literature by Elrick & Reynolds, they say that a single ponded height test can be just as effective, and avoids the potential for negative results, than a double ponded height test. If you are used to the old fashioned percolation test, constant head permeameters offer a faster, and more scientifically accurate alternative to measure the soil's field saturated hydraulic conductivity for septic assessments and stormwater BMP designs.
