It really is. I hear about my grandparents conditions worsening every time, my paternal aunt and uncles don’t take the best care of them and there’s been drama. But whenever my family is able to visit, and we show how much we care about them, they always seem more lively and improve if even just a little… it enfuriates and pains me to see my relatives mistreat them. I work in a nursing home and I can attest to how true this is. The people there are all there because they have some condition that requires skilled care to assist with day to day activities. I have people who have family that visit every day, multiple times a day, and people whose family I've never met. The saddest to me is a 19 year old girl on total care whose family has only visited twice in the 4 months I've worked there, and one of those times it was just her aunt

I was working in the geriatric unit of the hospital. A older woman who had dementia was yelling about her dads lunch being late. She was so tormented. I had my phone so I quickly guessed her age and then looked up Top Hits from the 1940’s which would’ve been popular when she was in her 30s. She immediately stopped yelling and was singing for the next hour. Music makes it home in a different part of our brain leaving it intact when other memories fade or become confused. So keep playing music and signing grandma. Love you.

This is so beautiful and you articulated my thoughts exactly. I was already tearing up from watching this video but reading your comment pushed me over the edge and opened the floodgates. Their special bond truly is the epitome of unconditional love. What he's doing is really special. I love their culture and how they look out for and take care of their elders. They don't send them off to a nursing home but instead take care of them just as they once took care of the family. And documenting their journey and sharing it with the world is such a vulnerable and intimate thing to share but it's helped countless people to feel less alone. I've been watching their videos for quite a while now and it's been so sad watching her decline, especially watching as her memory fades. It's going to be such a sad day when she passes away.
