Great video. A couple of points: the original LifePod can no longer be opened with a fork (program button is disabled when the safe is locked), and the original LifePod now comes with a steel security cable. So the primary difference is really just size and the tray.

They (Vaultek) have resolved every issue that you wanted to be addressed, except for the carrying strap, which is still an upgrade. I like the fact that you can somewhat customize your order, keeping the entry-level system at a more affordable price. Nice review.

Great video and I agree with you about the turning the interior LED light off using a simple switch; however, in talking with some design engineers, most are instructed, "If you can do it with written code on a chip, we don't have to spend money on a switch, wiring, etc." Bottom line is money, even if it's for a 1/4 cent switch. And today's engineers' thought process is, "I want it to look cool and futuristic, so let's write more code for multiple functions." I constantly talk to design engineers on software logic, problems and their lack of understanding to user interface. I tell them "Quit trying to create the Star Ship Enterprise when we only need a 1974 Pinto!" I get stared at because they have no idea what a 1974 Pinto is!

These are very well-built cases. Note that if you use it to store a handgun, thicker (wider) models such as a SIG P226 or P229 you won’t be able to use the tray.

Very true, some handgun models quickly make you realize "Full Size" categorization is quite relative when storage and carrying demands come into play. In some EDC storage instances you'll have to discard the Lid Organizer, and any other extra foam, to accommodate extra mags, Lights, etc.

Just got the sand special edition. Love all the extra foam and inserts. I wish we got the handle for free though. Seems like a silly thing to charge extra for when we are already paying 150+. I made mine a combo and carry it in the sling made for the 2.0 the lock it to under the seat if I can't carry a firearm into somewhere. Carry my full-size and all other EDC needs in the lifepod 2.0 then use the bag for my extra mags for body carry edc and have a small armor plate slipped in the back. Clutch new set up, now time for a cool new knife to carry with it.

I'll be waiting on the 3.0 or at the very least a 2.5 lol. The biometric scanner is a must. If your needing to get to your weapon fast and your adrenaline is pumping, your not going to have the ability to punch in a code much les trying to remember the code for it when seconds count.

If you need to get to your weapon fast, don't rely on biometrics. Get a mechanical safe like Fort Knox pistol box. Biometrics don't work too well with oily hands or when sweating - something that WILL happen when adrenaline is pumping.

Gr8 vid as usual. It seems like a gr8 product. But the fact that it's made out of plastic bothers me. If it were steel I'd buy it today. I don't see how this product is just as good as steel when it comes to someone looking to pry it open. A resourceful thief can get into anything but steel would slow him down more than plastic. 🇺🇸

Thanks! I should say that if it was made of steel it would really hurt it’s portability. So the shelf is just a piece of plastic, right? When you open the safe to grab the pistol in an emergency, you have to move the shelf out of the way before you can get to the pistol, which would take two hands or one hand for two tasks. In other words, using the shelf would take twice the hands or twice the time to get to the pistol. Nope, no shelf for me.

Does the tray count as separate compartment for ammo
@RetroTeddyBear
@RetroTeddyBear 3 жыл бұрын
The only way for the tray to fit with a handgun, would be if it was a narrow subcompact. Then you'd have trouble fitting boxed ammo on top. The next problem is using the tray will allow everything to slide around like crazy, so extra foam cut to your needs will be needed.

These are pretty cool but way too expensive for what they are, and what they are is a nice easy carry case for thieves with bolt cutters to take your guns! In all seriousness, if you travel (fly) a lot I guess these might be worthwhile... otherwise save yourself some money and buy a Liberty car safe. Only leave your guns in the safe when you absolutely can't have them on you or can't put them away. Don't leave your guns in your car. That is how your guns become someone else's guns.

They’re also a great safe to have sitting on your nightstand. My 10 year old step-daughter will be with us for the next six months, so my shotgun can no longer be under the bed within reach of where I sleep at night. All guns get locked up in my Liberty, and my sidearm will be in my LifePod with biometric scanner on my bedside nightstand so I can access it quickly if needed. During the day it’s in my waistband. That’s the main reason I bought it.

The one thing I would love to see from this company is a steel handle that can be pulled out from the top of the box so it can be carried easily , instead of having to place it into a knapsack . I do not like holding it in my hands and walking with it as someone can try to snatch it and run off , a steel handle that can come out of the top like a carry on suitcase would be awesome . Then I would use it for all my items as my everyday briefcase

My view on a hammer attack is to go for the hinges. The plastic looks weak there, and I do wonder whether a good whack with a hammer would crack open the hinges and allow the lid to opened from that side. Another concern is the thin cable, which I suspect can easily be cut using tin snips and possibly even household scissors. I remember years ago when my then employer bought cable locks for laptops, and I was able to snip the cables on them using the office scissors. So go figure. A length of heavy chain would be more resistant to an attack like that.

Can't wait to see how lockpick lawyer gets into this one 🤣 Does the company at least offer a discount to previous customers? Since they sold them something that can be opened with silverware? 🤔
@ChrispyThings

They since fixed the problem on version 1 by sending an upgrade kit so they at least made good on that. As for this version 2, nobody has been able to pick it with a fork yet. Hopefully never! Lol

@@ChrispyThingswhat did you need to swap for the LPL fork fix? How long did it take? I was wondering if the microUSB could be used to flash the device then disabling 'PIN' programming while open would be easy to do. Same goes for reprogramming the light access. While it wouldn't be a dedicated single physical switch or toggle one could program the keys to be any code, perhaps just the lock button as long as the lid is ajar.

Another good video and I am down to making a decision to one of these two travel safes. Are both TSA approved? It is my understanding that either box will allow you program from a 4 code to a eight code, right? In addition, the larger LifePod 2.0 will allow more cartridges and perhaps a box of ammunition that the smaller does not allow. Per the video, it seemed that both are quite lightweight and if you carry in a backpack I wonder if larger is just too big. However, I do like the interior light in the LifePod 2.0 when you open it up. Thanks.

You did answer the codes question and did a wonderful job on the exterior dimensions and the weights compared for both models and my ONLY question is that you did not state TSA approved for the 2.0?

They claim both are TSA compliant but I don’t fly. So I did not test those claims.

USB type C are way more expensive, that's why it doesn't have one.
@ChrispyThings
@ChrispyThings 2 жыл бұрын
That’s not true at all. Type C is the standard and it should absolutely have it. I’m not interested in saving the few dollars for micro. I want the convenience of carrying only 1 cable for all my devices. Europe already set that standard. The US should be next

@@ChrispyThings you can choose to believe it or not, but it's literally more labor for the little sweatshop hands to assemble the wires that go into a type C. I'd rather have the type C for all my devices as well, but I'm not running a tech equipment manufacturer in China.

I'm not making this stuff up. There's even KZbin videos about it. Gamers Nexus has made videos walking through the manufacturers plant floor talking about the extra expense and labor of using type C.

Great video! 2024 and still no USB-C and no rechargeable 18650 lithium-ion battery. Still leaning to the 2.0 vs original for air travel though.
