What a great tutorial!!! Great way to use the OctoRex to change the workflow and be creative, especially for someone like me that's a keyboard player who want's to create loops from chord progressions and other parts of a composition I'm working on. Thanks so much for this!

I’m so grateful for this video! Extremely useful! I’m trying to use it with chopping samples with the mpk249. I haven’t been successful yet but I’m going to try with dr. Octorex. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the tutorial. I've got the MPK249, I've assigned some REX files to the individual pads. On the REX player, when I hit "enable loop playback" all works fine. But when I try to record while using the pads, I'm not getting anything, any advice? I don't want to use the pencil tool to draw on the timeline, nor do I want to use the "copy loop to track" button, I want to use the pads to play and record in real time instead. Thanks in advance

One Rex file will map out the different slices starting at C1. On a keyboard, playing each key will play a different slice in that order. I would say in your case, load up one Rex file at a time and see if you can hit a pad on your MPK and get a slice to playback. If not, is there a way you can move up or down an octave on the MPK? Try this and let me know!

@@Chrisreedbeats So you are right in regards to each keyboard keys being able to play a slice. And I can record doing so. Still not sure why the pads aren't working with it. But at least I can use the keys now. Thanks Chris

@@maqabyah2 most times the pads register a certain octave of the midi Key range so think from C1-C2 would be 12 notes and that would equal 12 pads. 24 pads would be C1-C3 and so on. However, we do not know how the MPK is programmed to start those midi key ranges. Maybe it starts at C0 or C8 in which case the Rex player will not read the pad presses. Great question bro hope this helps!

@@Chrisreedbeats Yes, so if I'm just using the loop playback function with the Rex player, I can load up multiple Rex files in pads 1 to 8. I can hit any pad within that range, and while the loop is playing the various corresponding Rex files will register with each pad press. It's only when I go to record, I get nothing. Very strange.

thanks bro. I learned a lot of new and useful things. Looking forward to Reason 12? I wonder if they will pay attention to the daw itself, and not just to the rack?

Hey thanks for watching! Reason 12 is going to be dope I have a good feeling that they will make some workflow improvements.

Something i found the other day: normalize the clip before slice edit. It's easier for Reason to detect slices that way.

Hey that is a good tip! Thanks a lot I am going to check that out.
