I suddenly found myself in a chipping rut and getting "back to basics" was an excellent reset point. This video is great for anyone learning or fixing their chip.

Shaved plenty of shots off my game by finally accepting that this method is the best way to go around the course with minimal practice. Not everyone has the time to develop that high lofted shot. Great to see you are highlighting this simpler method Chris!

Nice work Chris, this video had everything I was looking for: - great graphics that really showed me what you were talking about - multiple flags to aim at - love the idea of using the one swing and simply use different clubs (tools) to get different results This is my new "go too" video for chipping, great stuff!

This is a great video Chris! I am a 9 handicap, but looking this year to improve my chipping around the green. In the past, I always used a 54 or 58 degree wedge, but now I am experimenting with different clubs (like your video suggests) and finding success with it!

Another great video, Chris. I already knew much of this, but your explanations of why you do all these things were exceptionally useful to me. For me, understanding is a key part of playing golf. Without understanding you have to memorise everything - which is a bit like "playing by numbers". Thanks. I look forward to the rest of the series.

Extremely good for me as a beginner. Currently chip shots are about all I can do above putting. Luckily, my favorite golf course has a very excellent practice area with three greens and some hills in between. The grass varies considerably allowing me to get a good feel for what it will be like when I am cut loose and one day play a half round.

Love this method, resembles the Paul Runyon “Rule of 12”. You just don’t go into the ratios. Just having to learn how to hit a target 4 or 5 yards away and let it run out is much easier than hitting a lofted wedge halfway to the hole.

that is great advice . but as a long time golfer who used to walk and now rides I have to admit when I walked a round of golf you can see the contour of the green and you also have 14 clubs right next to you to choose from , and now that I ride its awfully hard especially with the increase of green speeds to take the right clubs and especially if you want to keep a good pace of play .

This is great. My coach is trying to get me to use a 60 degree wedge and use the linear approach to shots like this. I am not comfortable with this approach but he is pretty dismissive of a chip and run technique. I struggle with chipping and this method looks much less risky. Would you agree and what would you do in my position with my coach. BTW he has been great on the full swing.

What do you think about Phil Mickelson's chipping method of hinge and hold, majority of you weight on your lead side, etc.?
@ChrisRyanGolf6 жыл бұрын
Hey Chase, he certainly does it pretty well!!! In my opinion he uses a technique that requires a lot of skill and doesn’t have much margin for error, being so good he can pull these off every time. I tend to coach a method which I believe is mire usable for the average golfer, but if his method works then I wouldn’t be against it 👍

Thanks. I use a chipping iron based on the putter style of club depending on the lie and distance. I feel I have ,more control. I also use it to pitch from 90 mtrs out. It works sometimes. How do I overcome my biggest problem: the guts 2 hit to the hole or past it when chipping .What do u think?

Thanks, Chris!! What about this same shot, but in rough? I find some times there's too much grass in between the club and ball and I fail to make clean contact. Any simple suggestions?
@ChrisRyanGolf6 жыл бұрын
Hi Travis, I would try to steepen the approach to the ball, so move the ball a little back and ensure the handle and sternum are more ahead of the ball, adjust loft accordingly as ball will come out lower abs roll more 👍
