I am planning to follow your route over two weeks in early October. I had hoped to show my wife my native land but she died a few months ago. She would have marvelled at the scenery I am sure. It will be the first time going anywhere without her for over 40 years so it will feel strange. Thank you for this excellent guide and your first-hand experiences. I will be buying your book when I have finalised everything.

I first did the NC500 back in the 90s when it wasn't known as the NC500. It was such a memorable trip for so many reasons, not least the scenery. Scotland is amazing for sure but last few times visiting I have found it to be extremely busy and it's best to avoid the peak times if you can.

Just done a lovely walk around Loch Morlich. Using your books for our NC500 and off down to Skye, Arrisaig, Glencoe and Loch Lomond. Buzzing.

Watched most of your NC500 vids and you don’t seem to of been to have been to Sandwood bay below Cape Wrath. It’s a must see but a 6.5km hike to get there but not many people make the hike so it’s often deserted. Hope you manage it someday!

You’ve probably covered this Chris but when would you say the best time of year is to do the NC 500. We are flexible and would like to avoid the busiest times and of course the midges. Cheers. Irvin & Lynn

Hi Irvin, We like to go May or mid-late September. Unless theres an early/late heatwave theres generally no Midges around this time of year and a good chance of nice weather too. Its worth noting though that the NC500 specifically is pretty much exclusively coastal which also stops the midges as they struggle flying unless theres no wind.

Thanks Chris. Keep up the excellent work!

I was planning to do the NC500 this august but I've been warned and put off my people telling me about the midges in Scotland. People have suggested that because the NC500 route is obviously by the coast the midges might not be able to withstand the breeze. Have you got experience of midges, NC500 + August ? Thank you!

There is but not right next to it. It’s near the beach which is a little walk away.

@@ChrisSloanesthank you! Would you also recommend the hike to Old Man of Stoer? I’ve read that there isn’t a clear path there…

Do you have electric vehicle stop offs for those wanting to do the nc500 in electric cars?
@ChrisSloanes8 ай бұрын
i dont unfortunately but i think the Highland 2 Hammocks version of the nc500 guide may have something in for electric car owners.
@markschofield6645 ай бұрын
Do the guide include EV charging along the route?
@ChrisSloanes5 ай бұрын
No they aimed at campervans and motorhomes. I think the highland 2 hammocks guide and map does though? May be worth a look.
