Warner's decision to push his movie back and then release it straight to video: you can be sue it was because some executive or investor didn't like the movie for some dumb reason. And as for the studio making a dumb decision regarding a good movie, well, when was the last time you saw a studio make a GOOD decision? Most great movies we've ever had are either auteur films or at least films made by directors who were able to put their foot down against studio pressure.

Hey Chris, I myself am a film fanatic, and I find it oddly satisfying to watch you rate and appreciate some of my all-time favorite films such as American psycho and Scott Pilgrim vs. the world. Most people can agree that they are great movies but not truly understand what makes them stand out from many other great films. One of my all-time favorite films that does not nearly get the recognition it deserves is the Moulin Rouge, starring Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. I genuinely believe it is one of Nicole Kidman’s best cinematic performances of all time. I would love to see your take on it if you could find the time to review it for yourself, I hope you can enjoy it as much as I have through the years! xx

@amelieg2466 жыл бұрын
This may just be my morbid imagination here, but I watched Trick 'r Treat for the first time last Halloween and I assumed that the reason the parents paid for their children to be killed was because they were disabled, and in an old rural town with potentially prejudiced views on disability, the parents didn't want to or know how to deal with them...either way, I watched it feeling horrified that anyone would want to harm their kids.

**SPOILERS** It feels weird commenting this because it's a disturbing aspect of the film and unduly cruel, however it's handled well and adds a little edge to allow this movie cut a little deeper. My interpretation of the School Bus Incident is that all of the children on the bus were born with intellectual disabilities or similar disorders, which caused their parents a great deal of shame, embarrassment and burden. If that weren't AWFUL ENOUGH, the parents decide to pay off the driver to drown the kids in a planned accident, which works but almost gets the driver killed as well. Later on, the young children say that the Rhonda character is an "idiot savant" (commonly austism spectrum disorder or traumatic brain injury that leaves one with intellectual disabilities but also one very strong trait, which is usually a very good long-term memory, strong artistic ability, or some prowess in a STEM field). The other kids imply that is why they choose to scare Rhonda specifically, with the bus incident story and subsequent prank. Once the main bully kicks the lit jack o'lantern into the lake, the zombies rise and kill them as Rhonda escapes. However, she runs into Sam on the way out, who lets her pass along unharmed, in what seems to be a good-natured acknowledgement of her. That implies 2 things: 1) Everything that transpired at the lake was a kind of Halloween karma concocted by Sam. The most-likely-autistic children were cruely murdered in the lake on a previous Halloween, the bullies cruely chose to taunt the probably-autistic Rhonda with that terrible tragedy, so Sam basically allows for a revenge-like scenario to unfold in which the wrongs performed by ignorant people are righted. 2) It is also implied in Rhonda's introduction that she has a lot of respect and love for the spirit of Halloween. She demonstrates this with all of the lit jack o'lanterns at her home and also by telling one of the kids to keep them lit in order to stay safe (she knows the rules!). It is shown earlier that disdain for Halloween and blowing out a lit jack o'lantern is enough to spark retribution from Sam, so he has more reason to kill Rhonda's bullies and even more reason to spare her!

I just watched this movie after years of interest and I think I hated it. I'm not gonna bash it, I love Halloween and scary movies but it just didn't jive with me on any level. I've spent like an hour looking through reviews and comments just trying to figure out what anyone sees in it. If they think it's scary, or it it's just so bad it's good, but everyone just says: "Best Halloween Anthology Ever!" or "My wife loves this one!". I appreciate your deep dive of the aspects of the plot and the particular vignette that was really engaging for you. I like actually reading somebody's thoughts and opinions, as opposed to "It sucked" or "it's great". I do appreciate the movie a little more. Well done!

I can't wait for Saw 23. For the love of God. I never before thought about how many kids die in this movie haha that's hilarious. This is one of the reasons why I always watch your reviews. I bought this back when it first came out on DVD, back in the days of CDs and CD Plus stores. Ritually watch this movie and the original Halloween every Halloween. This movie was also the catalyst, for me, when it comes to my fondness for onesies with butt-flaps. P.S.: Chris, Tobe Hooper's Texas Chain Saw Massacre has sentimental value to me, dating back to my childhood. Because I have always liked weird s**t too. Please review it, if you have time.

I Love Trick R Treat, i would argue it gave birth to an ever greater love and appreciation for the holiday since its release. Halloween now is bigger than ever and Trick R' Treat is now a modern horror classic.

You're one of my favorite youtubers, you're my favorite reviewer, even if I get disappointed in a review of a movie I really wanted to see, I'm not disappointed in how you tell it how it is, you're amazing Chris

I agree with you both. I saw this on cable just flipping around channels, and was immediately drawn in. I did not know it had no theatrical release. I’m so glad Universal has embraced this! Maybe more and more will see this!

I saw this movie trailer again and again on random DVD's in the late 2000's and always wondered WHY it never came out in theatres?? I would have seen this for sure. I finally bought it off AMAZON 2 years ago & enjoyed it very much. Great review for a scary movie MORE people need to see. Cheers.
