@@jalal3254 I think he's always been super famous since Titanic, but it wasn't until the 2010s that the public at large considered him a talented actor, and I think that's what Chris means by "underrated". When Titanic came out, most dudes thought he was only good at being eye candy for women (despite all the great roles he did prior to 1997) and it's only been in recent years that he's been getting the recognition.

LoN3wOlF5tudi0s I'm not saying that. But The last thing we'd call Leo is UNDERrated, he gets so much credit.
@MrLaxdude899 жыл бұрын
***** Not necessarily. He was well known, no doubt, but he wasn't doing hit after hit after hit like he is now, and he wasn't the subject of unfairly robbed of an oscar as he is now. Django and Wolf were fucking game changers, and no doubt we'll be able to say the same about The Revenant when it comes out.
@MrLaxdude899 жыл бұрын
***** Yes, since he was 15. How could I forget the magnum opus of Critters 3, the real oscar winning performance. But seriously, I acknowledge he's always been great. And I never said he wasn't a household name. But you saying "He's been in the game since he was 15" is a pretty broad statement. He's been in MOVIES since he was 15, but I believe he was about 17 when Gilbert Grape came out, which still pales in comparison to what he does now. Hell, John Travolta was huge at that time, look at him now, people often forget he even stars in movies at all nowadays. Times were different, Leo did not encapsulate the 90's nor did he the early 2000's. Much of his acclaim was from the Scorsese pictures: Departed, Aviator and so on, from the mid 2000's. I say this with titanic being split down the middle, some audiences even referencing Hayden Christensen when comparing performances (I don't think that at all, it's a fine movie and he did great) He was great back then and he received praise, but he was not the center of "Should have won an oscar by now." Django and Wolf are obviously not the ONLY films that sparked this buzz, but you could say they're the pieces of straw that broke the camels back. Significantly heavy straw. But straw nonetheless.
@LoN3wOlF5tudi0s9 жыл бұрын
***** Ah, I see what you mean, thanks for clarifying. I've liked almost every Leo movie that I've seen (Romeo and Juliet is one I hated), and my favourite 3 performances by him are What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Django Unchained and Shutter Island (I love all 3 movies). Those are his most Oscar-worthy performances so far in my opinion :)

My Top Nolan Films and Why! 1. The Prestige - 10/10 A+ On the first viewing: mysterious, entertaining, unique. Emotional. Beautiful. You can take ANY still from the movie and it would work as a promotional image. Just superimpose "The Prestige" over it. The storytelling is non-linear, but it's not confusing and works perfectly. On the second viewing, everything is still SO TIGHT! Every time I see it I like it more. 2. The Dark Knight - 10/10 A+ What hasn't been said about this movie? It's the best Batman film, probably the best comic book film ever. It's more like a crime thriller. Excellent characters, action, themes... never a dull moment. Ledger's performance truly is NOT overhyped. Visuals, story, emotion, soundtrack, cinematography... everything is as close to perfect as possible. 3. Interstellar - 9.5/10 A That's right, I said it. This movie gets so much undeserved hate. Though it's understandably divisive. The visuals and score are AMAZING. And I have never loved Matthew M SO MUCH! The relationship between him and Murph was so believable and way more emotional than I expected. The other reason I enjoyed this film is how few liberties it takes with its HUGE subject matter. Within the realm of the movie, everything is airtight. And as someone fascinated with Quantum Physics, it's really not far off. SEMI SPOILER: Not to mention, the visual representation of being in a tesseract, a 3rd dimensional being viewing time as a physical dimension... was awesome. Even the guesses and creative liberties the film took made the trippy physicist in me giddy. My one gripe is the same as Chris'... the last 10 minutes could have been cut. I would have loved that ambiguous ending... although I enjoyed the one we got. 4. Batman Begins - 9.5/10 A A perfect origin story to one of the best comic book heroes. Excellent performances all around. Excellent cinematography, score, and editing. The arc of Bruce Wayne was excellent... a wonderful way to introduce someone to Batman. 5. Inception - 9/10 A A wonderfully directed movie that has many layers of storytelling. My main issue is that it felt TOO emotionless... aside from Cobb's wife... which I still didn't feel like it was too emotionally strong. That and the more you watch it you question why some things don't affect the deeper dreams.... then you have to ask yourself are there really dream rules like that? The movie sets it up like there are rules.. otherwise I wouldn't have a problem with, say, gravity being affected in one dream but not the next. My girlfriend put it perfectly: "it's a deep film for casual moviegoers". It's multifaceted, sure. But it's not the most airtight storytelling ever. Still great, and the very end actually might be my favorite part. 6. Memento - 9/10 A This is the movie that made people look at Nolan and think: "holy shit. This guy is one to look out for". Now he's able to announce a movie, but nothing about it, and still generate huge hype. Which has got to be a lot of pressure. He hasn't made a bad movie, yet. Memento's storytelling is very unique and serves the actual story perfectly. Also this is possibly my favorite Guy Pearce role aside from "The Proposition". 7. The Dark Knight Rises - 8.75/10 B+ This movie got its fair share of criticism. Some I agree with, some I do not. It IS the weakest of the trilogy. It IS the most comic-book like. But this is his third Batman movie, and still manages to make it very good. That's the best run any director's had with the character yet. I'll say this exceeded my expectations. When I saw the villains were Bane and Catwoman, I thought .... what the hell. Luckily Bane wasn't the stupefied version from Batman and Robin, and was more like the comics. Although this is NOT the Bane from the comics. The end kind of changes things, but for the duration of the movie, Bane is amazing to watch. He has a very commanding presence and is brutal. Anne Hathaway also really surprised me in this. I didn't used to be a fan, but Catwoman was one of the best things in this film. (I also was surprised by her in Interstellar). The film has a couple of plot holes (getting back to gotham so quick mainly) but they don't really bother me, as there is surely a way to explain them. It is BATMAN. It is the weakest of the trilogy, and the least grounded, but it's a fun ride and DOES help the trilogy actually feel like a trilogy, with a full arc. Definitely deserves high praise. People get mad when Nolan's films aren't PERFECT. High compliment right there... 8. Following - 8/10 B- A great debut feature film. It wears its tiny budget with no shame, and doesn't care what you think about it. Luckily, it's a very intriguing film that drops hints as to where Nolan was heading with his career. I sort of felt less invested toward the end, but I might have to watch this one again and re-evaluate. I might end up liking it even more. 9. Insomnia - 8/10 B- It took me a long time to see this film. I wasn't blown away, but I was happy with it. Pacino looks suitably tired and everyone else in the film really delivers. It was awesome to see Robin Williams in another serious role. It really paid off. It's not a terribly fast movie, but very engrossing. Due mostly in part to the characters/performances. That's what I loved most about this movie. *Deep breath* thank you goodbye

It is the best blockbuster out there. I LOVE me some artsy films, but Inception just has a special place in my heart. The music by Hans Zimmer (I went to a live concert in Amsterdam not long ago, it was truly fantastic and a performence to remember for a lifetime, I fucking love soundtracks!), the editing by Lee Smith, the brilliant writing by Christopher Nolan and of course his brilliant directing makes this movie truly something special indeed. I can never get over how happy this movie made me feel the first time I watched it in theaters, it's still my favorite cinema experience to date. I watch this movie at least 1 time every year. The Creativity, the Craft, the work of a true Artist like Chris Nolan is pure genius. His ability to translate his imagination to film is flawless, and it's often not that easy. I am a bit disappointed that Steven Spielberg was the only director mentioned in this review, but not Alfred Hitchcock. Like the dream sequence in Spellbound, and the fear of heights on Vertigo.

I will never choose emotion scenes over story line telling and writing. If you guys really thought this movie needed emotion it didn't. You want emotion the go see movies for couples. Because it's sad that people can't see how good this director really is. Movies should be seen as a art film and not love storys or emotional ones either. People really do lack the mind set to understand a smart film. Action movies are highly overrated and yet get treated with better respect then others that tell a really good story.
@israelp3487 жыл бұрын
False, good movies NEED to be emotional in order for the story and writing to be good and the actors have to show some kind of feeling.

Leonardo DiCaprio underrated? He is considered one of the best actors of all time, not to mention he is arguable the most famous/popular actor of all time. The guy gets movie deals faster than almost any other actor. How is he underrated?

DiCaprio is almost 40. I think he's done enough movies, and imo he's extremely overrated. He doesn't deserve to be compared to the acting greats like de niro, pacino. Nicholson, Stewart, Eastwood, etc. And of course brando

trd 12 I think the only way to fully understand Inception, in all it's intricacies and depth of plot and themes, is to watch it twice. I understood it the first time, but the second time I was able to catch all the details and just how complex the whole dream sequence was. The opposite happened with Interstellar, surprisingly. The first time I saw it, I thought it was amazing. The second time, I noticed all the plot holes and how drawn out it was.

i watched this movie for the first time last night, and i wish i had seen it much sooner because it’s AMAZING. the originality, plot, characters and effects still hold up today. it’ll definitely be a sci-fi classic, if it isn’t already!

I just remember seeing it the first time, mouth agape going "this is it. I love this movie so much." great review! (I also agree with you on Joseph Gordon Levitt; he has serious talent)

They should re-release it in theaters for all the young people that have never seen it or people that didn’t get to watch it in theater. Another movie I wish I saw in theater is Whiplash. Favorite movie all time.

I remember being very young when Inception was released and disregarded it thinking it was a stupid pretentious movie.... I only gave it a shot because I came across Hans Zimmer time and fell in love with the soundtrack (so yes I was enticed to watch a movie because of one song lmao). I figured any movie with a composition that great must at least have a worthwhile scene I watched the very opening scene in my living room, lights on, with family talking in the other room...... and immediately realized my judgement was wrong 😂😂 ran upstairs to my room grabbed headphones, my laptop, and laid under a blanket because I had immediate regret for not seeing this in theaters 😭😭😭 the least I could do was make the best of it.

Dear Chris: I know that rewatching this might be a bit of cringe to you at this point but I discovered, that I love your true, uncensored personality which is not showing in 2019.. almost at all. Your knowledge and experience grew and you could teach your 2011 self a lot (no disputes) but at the same time this version of Chris is MUCH more Stuckmannized! I'd love for you to consider this comment as a praise and show a bit more of your personality to your viewers even though we all know much has changed. Up it, if you agree!

My fave Chris Nolan films: 1. Interstellar (that Hans Zimmer score!!!) 2. Inception (Leonardo Dicaprio, I mean what else do I need to say!!!) 3. The Dark Knight (RIP Heath Ledger) 4. Dunkirk (Tge sound editing and design, holy shit I felt like I was on the actual beach with the soldier!) 5. Batman Begins (one of the best super hero origin stories ever, well done!) 6. The Prestige (non linear storytelling at its finest!) 7.Memento (also non linear story telling at its finest) 8. Insomnia (An Al Pacino and an evil Robin Williams?!?! TAKE MY MONEYYY!!!) 9. The Dark Knight Rises (the weakest in Chris's TDK trilogy w/o a doubt, but still one of the best super hero films ever made. You could say that about all his Batman films honestly). Chris Nolan and his films are the reason I myself want to go into Filmmaking. Thank you so much Chris for your amazing films. Keep them coming man!

@@c.h.y For me personally: 1. The Dark Knight -- This is for me is one of the best, if not THE best superhero movie. the acting are great, the scoring for this movie is good, the cinematography is excellent , all of it are just top notch. 2. Inception -- one word, genius. this movie is just great in any way imo. 3. Interstellar -- this isn't just a regular sci-fi, this is an emotional piece of art. what i love the most from this movie is, you guess it, Hans Zimmer's scoring, it's just simply perfect,

M. Farrel Nugroho I cant believe some people like the MCU more than the DK trilogy 😒😒😡😡
@m.farrelnugroho55044 жыл бұрын
@@c.h.y yeah.. but, I mean, I can't blame them. I like MCU myself (of course DK trilogy is way better). Disney has big budget and know how to deal with their customers. And they focused on making a cinematic universe, not individual movies. It's what makes MCU more like a business then an actual art. And that's why I don't really like MCU more then I like DK trilogy.
