The soprano notes are the same as the 1615 Scottish Psalter tune French, sung to Psalm 121 I to the hills will lift mine eyes, however the timing is different

Thanks for this. The tune is traditionally associated with metrical psalm 121 “ I to the hills”…, but is common metre so used for many of the psalms and paraphrases.

The fourth verse might make more sense if the lines are rearranged: “In vain Apollos sows the ground, And Paul may plant in vain Till God diffuse His graces down, Like showers of heav’nly rain.” In other words, what Paul and Apollos do will only matter when God brings it to fruition. See the Biblical source from I Corinthians 3 - “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.“
