Christ of Saint John of the Cross is a painting by Salvador Dalí made in 1951. It depicts Jesus Christ on the cross in a darkened sky floating over a body of water complete with a boat and fishermen.

Let's not forget that Dali was inspired by a Spanish Carmelite priest, mystic, and poet, St. John of the Cross. He drew a picture of Christ from God's perspective, hence why this painting is even called Christ of St. John of the Cross.

The Painting is very beautiful and special. Now, that I no longer go to Glasgow, the Art Galleries and this Painting, in particular, is what I most miss of my visits there.

If politicians can hold back on starting wars, Salvador Dali's paintings will show the world just how good he was, no matter his eccentric ways. He was a lover of mathematics and science, as you notice on many of his pieces. We did not fully appreciate him enough while he was with us, but that happens more than you believe in Art.

It reminds Christians that Jesus Christ died for us all, irrespective of whatever your belief system may be. I have a rendition Dali's "Last Supper" which has Mathamatics throughout. The golden ratio is all over this painting. It’s in the table, the pentagonal windows, the bodies of the disciples. It’s everywhere in the painting.

Continues 17th century Spanish religious art. Cf. Zurbaran. Dali wanted to be taken seriously as well as being a provocateur.
