Very beautiful region close to Christchurch, nice views of the mountains and the sea. Great to be able to explore places so far away from where I live with your videos, thanks a lot, greetings from a road-tripper from Germany!

So pleased I came across your video and watched n waited till you reached Akaroa and coming down that Hill and turning the corner looking at The Speights Beer Sign. Imagine my surprise to that building because back late 1989 hubby n I with friends spent the weekend in that cute Hotel in this very spot - fairly sure it was called Seychelles Hotel a very beautiful spot and so charming too. We were leasing The Royal George Hotel cnr St Asaph n Fitzgerald avenue, in ChCh which I believe has gone now. Is there any remains of this old hotel still there. Never ever went back moved to Australia 6 years later. Still here. Thanks for the great trip Akaroa has certainly modernised itself.

Finally I could watch this👍💚💙 journey on TV in one go, enjoying every minute, thanks! Amazing mountains, stunning views of the bay - and wow, the narrow Summit Road feels like a roller coaster time by time 😅... New Zealand is a marvel💖 !!

You have the knack to pick up the best locations. I've heard about Akaroa but didn't know it is this breathtaking. On Summit Road at 2.16:02, the lake or the bay on left, would love to know more about it. Thanks again

We had the pleasure to be paid to house sit for 4 weeks in Le Bons bay on the 4th of June 2012 . On the 6th of June we had 200+ mil of snow . My wife had never seen snow before . We spent most of the 4 weeks exploring in and around Akaroa and had to drive the Summit road to get to the house . One early morning we left at 4 am to drive to MT. Hutt ski resort . The Summit road was covered in ice and snow grit which made for a slow , scary drive . We also saw the destruction caused by the earth quake in Christchurch and surrounding areas . The home owners let us use their Suzuki SX4 to sight see and being 4x4 made it a great car in the snow... The missus took over 4500 photos and videos . We also saw the Hector dolphins in Akaroa harbor on a cruise . NZ sure is a beautiful place ...

Good video. It's good that it's in real time and with real sound, not music. Like for your patience, mute the entire video. Wonderful views. Greetings from Galicia (Ukraine).

Hi thanks so much for sharing, I was lucky enough to drive this road back in 16, but I would be very grateful if you could tell me did you punch in satnav to get the directions? or is this the only way to get to Akaroa, I just want to make sure this is the road I took, I missed so much doing the driving and watching your video I got to see so much more of this amazing country, thanks again, Happy Aussie.

Hi, I don't use car navigation and this should be the major route to Akaroa.
@lobstermash9 ай бұрын
Yes, this is it - it is possible to go around through the centre of the peninsula and come down into Akaroa from the other side, but from Christchurch, this is the way. Aha - the ride in this video takes you through Akaroa and up again the other side to the Summit Rd - that's the other route I meant. Much further.

Enjoyed this - I live in Christchurch and have often driven this road but I do like to be driven. One suggestion - when the main view is alongside the road and not straight ahead, is it possible to rig a camera to the side window? Probably too much hassle - I was thinking of the side view of the Port Hills as you come around on the flat land before turning in to the Little River valley.

The first 5 minutes are so melancholy. All new building, under 13 years old. You couldn't tell where you where until you saw a street sign. It not until 5 minutes in that you start seeing pre-earthquake buildings.
@woobilicious.4 ай бұрын
What are you talking about? Plenty of buildings are from pre-earthquake, at 1:07 you can see James Hay Theatre and Townhall the entire building is very clearly Brutalist architecture...then you have the Crowne Plaza Hotel dominating the sky-line, at 1:45 you have next door a brick building clearly not post-earthquake, 2:07 to the left is a pretty old building as well, 2:17 behind the cathedral is a Hotel that predates the earthquake, and later at 2:40 you see the Neo-Renaissance building dating from 1913 lol.

One can only assume you arrived in Akaroa. A long video to watch yet not see the destination in question.
@DanielDennett-l9n9 ай бұрын
Actually the route goes through Akaroa about 1.5 hrs into the video. I believe the route map at the start showed this. There’s that saying: “it’s the journey, not the destination”, but you do get to see Akaroa on the way
