The Practice of Faith: a reflection on Psalm 119: 33-40
Should we expect the lives of those who follow Christ to look any different than the lives of those who do not? Do Christians tend to be more just, more honest, more compassionate, or more mature than others? Can we expect personal transformation of those who walk with Christ? If so, how does this occur? Although there are a few incidents of crisis events that lead to personal transformation in scripture, the general teaching of the Bible is that transformation occurs over time, as believers make conscious, deliberate decisions to train their behavior, thoughts, and emotions. This process is what we mean by the “practice of faith.” We might say that Psalm 119 is “ground zero” for what the Bible says about this.
