Oh my god, I've been looking for video footage of this lineup of Christian Death since at least 1989. It got to the point where I walked around Convergence one year asking everyone that looked old enough to know or care if they owned or had ever seen or heard of video footage existing of Catastrophe Ballet or Ashes. Thank you to the uploader, this is pure magic.

I know many people dislike Valor but I'll always maintain that this was the best version of CD..when Rozz and Valor actually cooperated.

@@ClaudLeon well, many people disliked Valor because that’s what the herd said was appropriate, and Rozz was very open about his own problems w/ him. But taken on its own, there’s a lot to like in post-Rozz CD music. Some of it sucks bad, but then he steps up and writes something good. Anyway, I agree with what you said, sorry for the digression. As much as I love Only Theater of Pain, Catastrophe Ballet and Ashes are brilliant and connected to so many memories for me. Valor is a good guitarist and Gitane, David & the bassist all played the music perfectly. The Blue Hour and When I Was Bed are prob my favorites.

The band at their strongest. Every member a key to the sound. I didn't like where Valor eventually took the band (though the first few albums under his leadership were great) but his guitar on CB and Ashes was fantastic. Those two albums stand up against any in the genre and beyond. CB in particular is a masterpiece and deserves more acclaim as one of the finest albums of the 80s.

I remember once the show ended Rozz remained on stage accepting various forms of adoration from the fans, we stood in line to get our moment with him, most people were kissing him. I was the last one and when my turn came I leaned in to kiss him, he grabbed my face and pulled me close, we made out for a long time..... I was 18 and a big fan

What an amazing show. I love how they sound pretty much as they do on the record. That was a very special and talented line-up for the Catastrophe Ballet and Ashes era Christian Death. Its cool to see this footage just to know what they were like live at the time.

I first heard of *Christian Death* in 1985. It was the *Catastrophe Ballet* LP on the french label *L'Invitation Au Suicide* That same year I bought *Deathwish* and *Only Theater Of Pain* from the same record label. I was in awe!!! At the same time I was discovering bands like '9,3'Current'9,3' C0IL, Death In June, Clair Obscur, ... Great times!!!

That was me in 1987. Then I found Coil, etc in 1988. Funny how many people found Current 93 and Death In June simultaneously, especially back then.

@@russellszabadosaka5-pindin849 : the period 1985-1990 where the peak years for the above mentioned bands. Same for many other good bands back then such as *In The Nursery* and *And Also The Trees* to name but a few.

Only Theater of Pain is a quintessential "must own" album, but Catastrophe Ballet and Ashes were really Rozz's stellar moment in CD. Seeing this live show and seeing Rozz so young, it's like a snapshot in time when it was all so new.

This just shows that Valor was a great songwriter in his early years. Catasthrophy ballet is a masterpiece. Usually with an album you get two or three great tracks, but here it is all good. Remarkable. Unfortunatly when Rozz died it went downhill real fast. Still the legacy remains.

Rozz admitted he fucked the band up by combining with what he would later term “Pompus 99” he was snarky like that. He ditched the original band with Rikk George and James after they lined up a European Tour in 1985. I think hard drugs had a lot to do with the decision. I think Valor was totally permissive of Rozz going full Sid Vicious as he knew he didn’t have a fucking music Tiger like Nancy to protect him. Gitane was too caught up with taking care of her and Valors baby. Rikk was such a musical genius and the original band would have been far superior. But when we are young we make dumb choices. Rozz was isolated and quit the tour while Valor stole the Christian Death name after being asked by Rozz not to. How Valor got rights when Only Theatre of Pain clearly shows he has original copyright on the name years before Valor was in the picture. Lisa from Frontier Records should have backed Rozz and Rikk James and George up and taken that name back from Valor who’s a boring guitar player and lukewarm songwriter by the way. And made him pay everything back he made on it. Why couldn’t he play under the “Pompous 99” name. So ironic his name is valor when he acts oppositely

At the end of the Decomposition Of Violets, they supposedly put "Romeo's Distress" from this live performance. But if you listen to the "Romeo's Distress" on the Decomposition Of Violets, the very last time he says "I'm so tired" sounds yelled & has a different inflection than the way Rozz says it here. Yet it's suppose to be the same song taken from this performance. You can check this out for yourself. Listen to the last time he says "I'm so tired" on the Decomposition Of Violets version & then compare it to the last time he says "I'm so tired" in this show. It's suppose to be the same exact song but the way he says it is different in both. It's very confusing. Unless they played multiple shows that day & the version on Decomp is from a different show on that same day. Thought it could just be the difference in recording qualities, but he clearly yells "I'm so tired" at the end of the version on Decomp & does that flamboyant twang with his vocals. Where as here, he just says "i'm so tired", like he's actually tired. lol Anyone got any explanations?
