This song is criminally underrated. Genuinely one of my favourite songs. Ever.

Dear Mr. Christian Lee Hutson, it's unclear for me how you brought this intense sentimentality to this afternoon. I'm weeping over memories that haven't come for me, and many that have come to pass. Basically, thank you. Your work does not go unappreciated.

I got a call earlier this week that a dear friend of mine was hit by a drunk driver and passed away. We hadn’t talked in years and I wish that had been different. I found old photos of us through the years… I also found an article about the accident. Needless to say, this song has been on repeat and the tears definitely come with it- especially with the line “I hope it was an instant death”. Thank you for this beautifully written song that is helping me through this time.

Im so sorry for your loss. I was hit by a drunk driver going 77mph in a residential area while dropping my friends off after a movie. We all survived so any time I learn someone isn't as lucky as us I really know how precious life is. Take care 💙

"i was new in town, kinda goth" is my new favorite opener line ever. so moving, insightful and heartbreaking. morrissey apologists and amateur psychologist of the world unite and let's cry a bit but also treasure this life (CHEESY ALERT) because this song has that effect on me!

Ja La he’s always been politically outspoken but people have loved to hate Morrissey long before a lot of these particularly extreme statements. Just being a mopey vegan was reason enough for some lol. I personally like a lot of Morrissey’s solo stuff too. He’s ridiculous but I love him.

This is storytelling at its best. For example, a subtle build up to the fact that the person he is singing about is not longer alive through the lines" Besides you are a Northsider now. Nothing's going to change it, pal." It is beyond my comprehension why this song only has 74,000 views.

This song made me cry. I’m a normal 17 year old boy btw not one of these 47 year old moms in the comments so you can rest assured that I actually rarely get this emotional with songs. The “getting fat somewhere in the country side” line made me really sad. I feel like it’s never hearing about the sad stuff that gets to us, it’s hearing about what COULD have happened. That’s why when you read about people dying it says “he would have been 26 this year” or “he wanted to be an engineer.”
@antjone4 жыл бұрын
You are better able to "get" this because you're 17, not a "47yo mom". This is an example of a time-travellling embarrassment, one which will give you a spasm (like Hudson's memory of "probably addicted now"). "thinking we invented it. Send my regards to your poor mom.

"Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time On a live wire right up off the street You and I should meet June bug skipping like a stone With the headlights pointed at the dawn We were sure we'd never see an end to it all And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues And we don't know just where our bones will rest To dust I guess Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below Double cross the vacant and the bored They're not sure just what we have in the store Morphine city slippin' dues, down to see that We don't even care, as restless as we are We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts And poured cement, lamented and assured To the lights and towns below Faster than the speed of sound Faster than we thought we'd go, beneath the sound of hope Justine never knew the rules Hung down with the freaks and the ghouls No apologies ever need be made I know you better than you fake it, to see And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues And we don't know just where our bones will rest To dust I guess Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below The street heats the urgency of sound As you can see there's no one around"

The rest of the album is good, but this stands out as so much better, I wonder what Hudson thinks? Does he think it's his best song? Does he worry he's done his best work, or is he optimistic it shows he can write a Great Song? Or both? I wonder if,. lyrically, it's too songs stuck together. If not, it's a great leap in perspective and feels. A third verse that catapults 10 years ahead is always a great trick.
