I'm a bassist who grew up playing Funk, R&B and many other genres of music, and all I can say is that these three young men are amazing in every sense of the word. Their timing is impeccable and their individual feels are just mind-blowing. Christian McBride is outstanding (as always) and I am reminded of the performance he did with George Duke for the song "It's On", where he added elements of Funk to his groove and just blew that crowd away. There's a great story about Christian McBride finally getting to meet James Brown, who was one of his idols. You all need to watch the clip of that here on KZbin.

Ahh....this would be a historical revision, not an evolution. Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Paul Bley, Keith Jarrett and even Herbie Nichols moved the evolution of improvisation beyond what was played here. I'm not saying there is something wrong with this attempt at re-creating a way of improvising that was prominent in the 1950s, but I will point out that it surely isn't an evolution of anything after or beyond the musicians you mentioned. If anyone is interested in listening to where improvisation evolved post the 1950s you might begin here. Lennie Tristano, Jaki Byard, Andrew Hill, Cecil Taylor, Joe Zawinul, McCoy Tyner, Brad Mehldau, John Escreet, Craig Taborn, Dave Burrell, Vijay Iyer. Gonzalo Rubalacaba, Andy Milne and few dozen others.

A great tune from the Boss Guitar which I have listened to since it came out in the 60's. Mel Rhyme was one of the hippest B3 players and blew licks that were heavy and explosive always in the pocket with Wes and Jimmy Cobb. Cobb was a timekeeper, his cymbal drove the beat at astonishing clarity and his touch was amazing, always in the pocket. Christian is remarkable and bass and drums all right in the groove. I love Christian's style. Would like to hear the piano switch to a B3, that would be interesting! Well done guys. Excellent! Sands uses an exciting choice of chord voicings and lines. Drumming is well thought out, holds the groove.
@raym19672 жыл бұрын
When your learning to play the drums and you see and hear something this good it's so inspiring. Only thing is you can hear that you need that ride cymbal that cost a small fortune. One day, one day..thank you though for making proper music. Proper ear filling, brain satisfying music. I wish all can understand and enjoy this kind of thing one day.........one day.
