Not so sure about Hiroshima, but Nagasaki was, and arguably still is, considered the epicenter of Christianity in Japan. Particularly for Catholicism. The US instituting MacArthur as the head of occupation was the right call. His advocacy for Christian values among the Japanese population caused a rebound in believers, while at the same time discouraged communism from spreading culturally and politically.

That scene from Fury always infuriated me. Some people hand wave it away as war and men doing terrible things to each other, others say it's justified to kill an unarmed prisoner because he was an evil Nazi, and therefore there is no crime. They easily forget that in this same movie, right at the end, when the tank is overwhelmed and the almost the whole crew is killed, the sole survivor is spared, by a Nazi. The SS, Wermacht and Axis were not the servants of Satan, in our modernist mythos, but European, Christian men, who fought against the evils of the international capitalism and bolshevism. He came as a man and took our punishment for us, holding up our end of the deal because we can't do it ourselves. We can't keep the gift of life ourselves, we rely on Him. If you now beg the question of why He loves us, I have two answers. One, He's an infinite being with infinite love and infinite forgiveness, to Him nothing we do is insurmountable through said love; a comparison between quantifiable (not by us) sin and unquantifiable forgiveness. Two, it's a divine mystery beyond our comprehension, as can't know the feeling of love for a species of our creation. But, regarding the latter concept, we cherish our own children unconditionally, even our own pets in their place sometimes, and in our eyes they can do no wrong, even when they do wrong. You can then draw a parallel between God's love for us as His children, and the love we have for our own children. TL;DR Humanity doesn't deserve to exist as it is, but He already took our punishment.

A great documentary I recommend is Europa The Last Battle. As with most everything nowadays, listen to the narrative that is being silenced. It wouldn’t be hidden and bashed on by most everybody if there wasn’t something important in it. But most importantly, pray to God for wisdom and discernment about it.
