Really great tutorial. Well pitched to suit a beginner/improver like myself. Great balance of theory and practical-‘this is how you play it’. Thanks for posting.

Hi Christian this is the best lesson on the basic elements of country music that I have ever seen. What I found most difficult as a beginner was that in most books and tutorials a new concept was often taught with a new song, or chord progression in different keys. This made everything three times as hard to learn. The structural approach is the best way. I’ve always wanted to see a series of lessons on the basic elements of all styles. Each style would demonstrated in the same key. You could then use the same song to further demonstrate the stylistic similarities and differences. These lessons would then be accompanied by lessons on how to apply each style to particular songs. Thanks for this one. Great work.

I know exactly what you mean! Also Blues Piano books do that ( separate concepts shown in different keys). Dunno why they do that....

Christian thank you so much for all that you do You set the example for keeping information forward readily available to musicians !!! Thank you so much for everything and as a musician i am also teaching others in music as well. The good that you provide is exponential and i pass what i learn from you to other musicians i work with! You are vital not only to me , but also other musicians that i know. The good is and will always be passed on!!!!!

Thank you for this excellent lesson! It is worth noting that country music is more closely associated with heartbreak and drinking oneself into oblivion than happyness, in American culture.

Hi Master Christian, Thank you for your wonderful tutorials. The drone incidental thing is called a twang in country music. As you can "hear", the sound of "twang" mimics the combination of the piano notes.

Yet, again, nice one. Thanks! If you are ever inclined, it would be great to see your take on Nicky Hopkin's piano style. It had some country tinges, albeit placed within the context of his own unique style.

Love your videos Christian. Not only are you a good teacher, you are funny too. I'm learning piano at age 63. I learned You Are My Sunshine using the 5th in the LH. Also learned a boogie woogie style. I don't completely understand everything you teach such as major 6 and major 3 and tonic note? But I guess the 6th note on a C chord would be A? Love Floyd Cramer and follow his grandson Jason Coleman on YT. Would love to be able to play Last Date some day. I also follow some boogie woogie piano players on YT. Terry Miles and Brendan Kavanagh.

Awesome! Glad to see that you are taking a 'good listen' to some of the Greatest Country songs and sounds. Thanks so much for picking out some of the intervals that Floyd Cramer used to get such cool unique sounds. No such thing as too much Country, as long as you're covering more Classics. I haven't found a video from you on any Patsy Cline, (Crazy) it would be nice to have a 'how to' for Crazy. Thanks so much!

Great to see country licks added to your lessons. I've been working on 'Behind Closed Doors' by Charlie Rich---this lesson has provided good information to apply to that song. The sheet music is in C---which sounded off until I realized the original was recorded in C#. Look forward to additions to your 'Country' lessons. (PS Go easy on the sarcasm regarding country music. You don't ridicule other genres as you teach. You will find yourself in the woods behind the country bar squealing like a pig.)
