I would just go rec out from the secondary mixer into the primary. This stops the secondary user from blasting out higher levels from the master into the primary mixer's line level. I have done this setup with 4 DJ's together, all using their own equipment and this is how I set it up. 6:23 LOL You'll never see all the clubs switch over to the new Denon's. A day late and a dollar short.

I recently did a gig with a 3 by 8 setup, all nexus 2 but the third mixer was a numark m101 scratch mixer with no effects to save money

i have a suggestion for you, rather then use RCA from one mixer to the other for L/R you can use the digital out from the one mixer into digital in on a channel of the other mixer, this is better then master out in RCA because RCA is susceptible to wire interference and shitty wires whereas a digital signal is either completed or its not and as long as the signal is there it will always be in its highest quality, with RCA you would need gold plated everything to ensure max connectivity is achieved

a bit late to all this but friends of mine always play b2b and they have for turntables, 2 S9 mixers and then in the middle theres a djm 900 where both S9 go in. actually the most fun way to play b2bs

a question on the 2x4 setup : In order for the "slave" setup to make a transtion from the master setup, they have to play with the faders from the master setup as well as theirs right ? which makes it a bit trickier than for the person playing on the master setup who just needs to play with the fader of his 4th channel to make a transition. I can't find a way to avoid that.

Wouldn't it be better to connect the xlr or digital outs from BOTH mixers to a house board or a separate NON DJ mixer? I feel like the sound quality would be diminished using the slave technique.

its the nicer solution but linking the 2 dj mixers is cheaper so every club will always do that.. im guessing unless its a top level sound system it wont make a noticeable difference with a set of good rca cables

one thing it is not crowdy, other is that both djs can mix at same time, but it is not common, third thing is that mix come out completely different, since one dj is fadeing out one track, and other dj is fadeing in another track, also when one dj is spinning, other can peacefully find tracks that he wants to play and beatmatch it , as if there were one mixer he would step up behind it when other dj was ending track and you are left with little time to prelisten and beatmatch, and some more

there are some settings in the utility menu which change the characteristic of the rec out routing. And more DJs are used to the master knob having an effect on their volume to the other mixer if they commonly do 2x4s
