Though an older movie, still one of my favorites. And the professor's final plea to the church near the end of the movie is gut-wrenching and convicting. I love when he said, "Jesus will not save any man that He cannot command." We forget that our Christianity isn't about us, but about the Lord and following Him. Yes, we are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), but we also forget we're His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). I have this movie in my library and take it out whenever I want a reminder of what to watch out for in my own walk in the Lord. And time is short; we need to be about His business. Let's go out and preach that glorious Gospel (Romans 10:14-17).

This movie was an eye-opener to me. To be honest, when I saw the doctor standing in fronting the TV screen while the boy was watching, I chuckled at his behavior for being a little quirky and adorable and thought, well, that’s how a time traveler would react. But I caught myself laughing at it realizing how I’ve been numbed by sin in entertainment, being in the exact condition the boy was in. Any entertainment is not an option if it disrespects the LORD and promotes sin in any way, even if it’s small. Just like water and oil don’t mix together, God’s holy nature and sin simply don’t go together.

I've been wondering about this movie for _years_ ; and am happy I finally got the opportunity to see it here on YT. 😇 It was pretty good for the most part. I would've liked to see some more detailed interactions from the main character re his introductions to modern technology-cars, TV, computers (the closest thing they had in late 1800's were manual typewriters!); bicycles (they haven't changed that much; plus he could've used one to get around faster); -shoot, even radios! His visit to the movie theater involved two things he was totally unfamiliar with: 1.) moving pictures (they only had the first rudiments in 1890, with no sound); and 2.) color; yet he seemed to not react at all. Instead they focused on the moral/spiritual aspects of progress, which was fine (and expected). I just wish the "fish out of water" element was portrayed more realistically.
@ruth7965
@ruth7965 2 жыл бұрын
@@nostalkingzone The fish out of water aspect was not the main message. The movie was trying to bring to light the absence of the name of Jesus in our daily lives. The movie was well balanced, and honored its purpose.

@@ruth7965 Oh, I agree! I just found myself wishing the producers had included D. David Morin's character looking up at the sky at a passenger jet flying by...just once, for some added realism. ;) A more mainstream audience, more than likely would not relate to (much less care) why Jesus' name should be present in modern-day society (by this, I mean only that the movie seemed more aimed at a Christian audience than the average moviegoer). But the scene at the library, where he was SOOOOO tempted to look up his life -including (likely) the year of his own death-THAT was _Very_ realistic ( _I_ think) to the temptation *Any* of us (Christian or non) would've felt in a similar situation! (btw, Professor Carlisle had _quite_ a large enough "butterfly effect" set in motion already, as things were). 🙂

@@neverstopschweiking Are you telling me in the ancient world accurate statistics on rapes and murders were taken that can accurately be compared to todays statistics? Todays society is heading to hell because people no longer have a fear of God because they dont believe, they think there are no repercussions for doing evil acts. The Christians of those times would have been fearful of God and would have been scared to transgress but the pagans would not have cared and neither would many of the Jews as they were worshiping Baal and other pagan idols. Baal needs his blood scarifices which he gets from all the ongoing wars, child abductions and other heinous acts. So you are definitely incorrect, there will always be outliers, fanatics such as the Crusaders, Witch trials in Europe, the Spanish inquisition where many innocents died because they werent Christians, the wars fought over religion so I understand your view but generally speaking most Christians are upstanding and decent citizens because of the commandments given to Moses. Stick with those and you cant go wrong, I have broken many of those commandments, I am a sinner and most of us are. How many of the atrocities of war, enslavement, witch trials were committed because of the manipulations of Lucifer and the demonic realm? They hate mankind and right now evil is rampant across the world, I am close to 60 and its worse now than at any earlier time I have witnessed in my life. The forces of light believe in free will to all lifeforms, they dont interfere directly with humanity unlike the forces of the dark, you do you and I will do me. I wish you Peace and goodwill, I will never try to convince you to think as I do. That would interfere in your free will. I wont do that.

The Lord will help us we choose to follow one day at a time 🕰️ The choices will get easier when we see it through and follow. It’s the LORD’s will for us, just as it will for His Son to provide the perfect sacrifice. Isaiah 53: 10. / Isaiah 52: 14. / Psalm 22:14. / Isaiah 53: 5. / Ephesians 1:7. / 1John 1:7. / 1Peter 2: 24.

We've become desensitized to so many biblical and moral issues... we look the other way and close our eyes to wrong doing... we say it's not our business and ignore our God given duty of evangelizing for Christ... In 1890 the Klan was lynching 10 people a day across the south. The US Army was raping and killing its way across the plains in order to exterminate the native tribes so white settlers could strip the land of its timber and gold. Every major city had a red light district filled with brothels and the violence and lawlessness of the wild west was in full swing. Moral Christian leaders of the era like John Rockafeller and Andrew Carnegie were getting untold riches by operating sweatshops and when the workers wanted to be paid fair wages the response was to hire Pinkerton thugs and strike breakers to go murder the workers and their families. Leopold II of Belgium was given control of the Congo under the promise to bring Christ to the natives of Africa and instead forced the country to work on massive rubber plantations and killed the children of any who could not meet his quota, killing 14 million in what was a larger genocide than the Holocaust. How much of an idiot can you be to think this was a more moral era because people didn't swear in movies back then and women weren't allowed to get divorced?

It is sad but it’s even more sad that we’ve had so many chances to slow our descent to the end times. And we still can but not the same amount as we could before, mainly because of how some of our technology is being used. Look at our laws. Some of them specifically contradict the Commandments and the people that make these laws are voted in by us. We choose to let man’s laws to supersede God’s Law. We choose to let corrupt people make moral decisions for us. We can slow it a bit. Spread the Words of Christ and do our best to live by His rules and example even when it’s not convenient or beneficial (at the moment) for us. As a society, stop electing immoral people that only care about greed and lust to represent us. I mean, if you had to send someone to deliver a message as your representative; would you choose someone that’s reliable and shares your morals? Or would you choose someone that’s a liar, a thief and believes in nothing?

I’m still in awe of the biblical truth coming through my tv. Soo happy to see it’s actually possible these days. Even in the churches unfortunately professing Christian’s don’t take God at his word. Churches don’t want to offend anyone to keep them coming back. We’re born sinners, separated from God. That’s why we sin, and are in need of a savior. The perfect sacrifice had to be a man. The only perfect man was God with us. Jesus 1 Corinthians 15 1-4

A TRUTH, NO RELIGIOUS PERSON CAN ADMIT! Catholicism, Christianity, Islam and Judaism, are without question, responsible for more mass murder, more heinous atrocities, more crimes against humanity, more wars, and responsible for the outright slaughter of millions upon, millions, of completely innocent people. And that can't ever be seen as acceptable, in the eyes of any sane man, no matter what they believe? Just because these religious people all claim to support the so-called "good of religion", means they want to ignore the reality that religion brings to mankind. That's not smart, it's not clever, and is, actually, just a completely Illogical and harmful approach to any problem. Religion Itself, is responsible for more mass murder, more torture, more inhumane heinous atrocities, it's now simply unacceptable! There's simply no excuse. It's now unforgivable. Oh, of course, they can, and they will, just make up their incredibly juvenile denials of these facts, like claiming it's just "people using religion", but that's not the case, and that's just an outright lie, they are religious, and they do indeed, represent religion. The Pope, himself, ordered the crusades that are responsible for the outright slaughter of hundreds of millions of completely innocent people, so, is that acceptable to religion? You see, it seems it is, so do tell me, just how many innocent people need to die, before religion becomes unacceptable? Well, how many? Mankind has fought many wars, and killed many millions of people in the name of religion, how many more times, how many more lives?. Believing in one religion, creates animosity from another religion. Religion bickers and argues with Itself, that process creates hate from one religion toward the other, that hate becomes the war, that war, becomes brutal, unnecessary, human death, and in the millions. It always has since it began, (we have the religion's entire history proving this to every one of us! So, what is it? What is religion? It really is mankind's, very own, special "man-made" poison!... It's harmful, and it's deadly. You can try to disagree all you want, because nobody can defend the undefendable! Their religions preach about, God/Allah's demands that all non-believers, and/or all followers of any other religion must be put to death, nearly all these modern-day religions do! Yet it's actually, only religion itself, that commits the real evil, and the "really dirty" sins. Indeed, while the religious have murdered throughout history in the name of their God! I've been unable to find any evidence of any atheists killing anyone in the name of atheism? Yet you'll find the religious will try to use the names of Stalin and Pot, with other Communists to suggest otherwise, trying to claim, that those who fought for communism, were fighting for atheism. Yet, while ignoring the obvious fact, that many weak-kneed communists, that fought for communism, reasons were as follows: “Religion does not prevent me being a communist. I believe both in God and in Communism. My faith in God does not hinder me from fighting for the cause of the proletarian revolution” ... In other words, the religious also fought for Communism, (killing other religious and atheists), the atheists also fought for communism, (killing religious and other atheists). Showing us, very clearly, It's not a fight for atheism, but it's a fight for Communism! And having to explain that, is because, that's what religion uses to try and portray the atheist, (so they can then turn all the crimes, murders, and killings during communism), onto the atheist. Only it's so backward, as It's no different from religion, claiming that all atheists must be Communists? It's nothing but ridiculous idiocy, but it really does prove how their very own warped, and deceiving religious mindset actually works? Actually prepared to lie about others, to make some kind of case for their own brutality and slaughter of many millions, is the truth. Atheists, are no more or less capable of evil than anyone else, but it seems that murder, particularly mass murder and war, is a sin of commission. - In other words, human beings are generally only prepared to fight and kill in the name of something. It can be a God, but it can also be a political philosophy - like Nazism or Communism, many fight for patriotism, for country, tribe or race, some kill because they're psychologically disturbed, but none - so far - in the name of atheism. So, while I don't agree, that only religion causes conflict, I'd argue that all mass murder and war, are fought in the name of a bigger-than-self philosophy or idea. Atheism, simply a lack of belief in a God, has not yet proved compelling enough to motivate murder. So far - no one has gone into a crowded public space and blown themselves up while shouting, “No, god is great!” Religion really is mankind's very own special "man-made" poison. Lots of us don't want that poison. The religious really are the warmongers of mankind, (yet they'll continue to deny that even with history staring them in the face). The religious all believe in things they can't prove exist, have never seen any proof themselves, and they seem to expect people to respect them, and their religion! Respect it? While we're living through their endless wars? Living through their brutality, and their fighting all around the world? No, there should never be a shred of respect for that. And for what? Oh, it's over something as pathetically juvenile as, "whose religion is right, whose religion is wrong". That's actually tragic stupidity, man! Clearly, they're all not only completely wrong, but they're outright murderous!! It will come one day soon, when the people will have had enough of the killing, the wars, the brutality and the excuses. They'll pack all the religious off to some Island somewhere, and leave them to fight their wars against each other, (over whose religion is right, whose is wrong) ... leaving the educated people in peace. And do you know what else? I'd not even be the slightest bit interested in who actually won.

You also, all make comments like yours, yet you're unable to answer so many things that categorically prove your religions are only a man made myth, how can that be? Surely you should be able to answer any normal logical question? Yet none of you ever can, you all claim you can, only when you're shown something that proves you wrong, you just deny facts, man! Why? I'm perfectly able to prove this to you, also. In fact, how about this? What if I were to prove to you, that what you claim you believe in, can't be a God, but can only be nothing at all, or the Devil himself? So, if I could prove that to you, and prove it conclusively, leaving you in no doubt whatsoever, would you then stop believing?, or would you do, what I believe you'd do, and ignore it, or not answer it, and indeed, you'd just continue claiming you do believe in your religion? So, even after having it proven to you, that you can't be believing in a God, but can only be believing in nothing at all, or the Devil himself, and you'd still continue claiming you believe in a God? And that doesn't strike you as peculiar, or even stupid? No? That's astonishing. So, pay attention. Because with just three, very easy to understand questions, I'll now prove to you that you can only be believing in nothing at all, or the Devil himself... And we all know what proof is, right? Categorical, conclusive, undeniable proof! Both Christianity and Islam's most fundamental belief is that God is the sovereign creator, upholder, and ruler of the universe. And that he is eternal (ever lasting), omnipotent (having unlimited power), omniscient (knows everything), and omnipresent (is everywhere). I'm assuming, as you claim you are religious, that you must know that, right? Well, then, answer these three very simple, easy to understand questions. Q 1. If this so-called God/Allah (controller and ruler of everything) is willing to prevent evil? But not able to prevent evil? Then it is not “omnipotent” (having unlimited power), proving it is no God. You do understand that, right? Q 2. If the so-called God/Allah (controller and ruler of everything) is able to prevent evil? But not willing to prevent evil? Then it is “malevolent” (having or showing a wish to do evil to others), proving it is no God. You do understand that, right? Q 3. If the so-called God/Allah (controller and ruler of everything) is able to prevent evil? And is willing to prevent evil? Then why is there evil? Now, because there is evil in this world, is undeniable, categorical, conclusive, proof, (that should leave you in no doubt whatsoever), it's impossible for a God to exist! You do understand that, right? Because, if there is a God, who is eternal, (ever lasting), omnipotent, (having unlimited power), omniscient, (knows everything), and omnipresent, (is everywhere), then there would be no evil, right? Think about it. This categorically, conclusively, leaving you in no doubt whatsoever, proves, that if any higher power does exist, then it can only be, and must be, the devil!. Think about it, use your own inquisitive minds, as this proves it. You only need to ask those three (very simplistic, easy to understand, questions) to yourself, to prove it to yourself. You do understand that, right? So, explain why it is, we see you only believing in nothing at all, or the devil himself?

As for this? Well this, always leave you speechless LOL... Seemingly, you're also just unaware, that whenever we hear anyone claiming they do believe in God, that we all know they don't, and we all know they're only lying about it? Seemingly, you have no idea about this provable fact, so, how can this be? And yet, when I prove this to you, all we'll see, is you, just claim not to understand the English language any more, LOL! Or you'll just claim, you never read it, right? Hilarious, and the one thing you'll not do, is answer it! LOL. Honestly, this really is the level of intelligence, we really are talking about, here, it's astonishing! They're just is none! LOL. So, the truth, as I'll prove, must be, that something so simple to understand, just seems to become completely impossible for any of you religious, to understand? So why is this? It can only be, because, quite unbelievably, none of you "self-proclaimed" religious, even understand your very own, highly inquisitive minds! As if you did, then you'd also know, that whenever we hear anyone claiming they do believe in a God, that we all know they don't, and we all know, they're only lying about it! - How? Obviously, because we all have, our very own, highly inquisitive minds, and we all know, that if we were to claim we do believe in a God, (that our very own, highly inquisitive minds), will always be nagging away at us, (in the background), telling us to stop lying about it, and demanding the proof of a God, that would then, allow us to believe it, right? Do you understand this? So, we do know, that whenever we hear anyone claiming they do believe in a God, that they don't, and they're only lying about it! Obviously, because we know, their very own, highly inquisitive mind, will always be nagging away at them (in the background), telling them to stop lying about it, and demanding the proof of a God, that would then allow them to believe it, right?. Are you still understanding this? (You don't need to be a genius). And we also know, that their very own, highly inquisitive mind, will never stop nagging away at them, (in the background) telling them to stop lying about it, and demanding the proof of a God, that would allow them to believe it, right? Therefore, our very own, highly inquisitive minds, prove to all of us, that it's not actually possible for any of us, (of sound mind), to really believe in any God, right? Do you understand, this ever so simple thing to understand? Also, if you or anyone (of sound mind), who claim you do believe in a God, yet also claim, your very own highly inquisitive mind, is (not) always nagging away at you (in the background), telling you to stop lying about it, and demanding the proof of a God, that would then allow you to believe in a God, then, you… 1. Must have seen proof of a God, that would then allow you to believe it. Or 2. You really should see someone about that, as that's not at all normal. Or 3. You should give your own head a little wobble, as something's clearly come loose. That's actually, undeniable, categorical, and conclusive proof, that whenever we hear anyone claiming they do believe in a god, that we all know they don't, and we all know they're only lying about it. So, care to explain yourself?

It was also a day of freedom, leaving the worldly church to follow Jesus. Such an excellent movie. This subject is one we we can all agree with. One just has to look around. But, to have it laid out in front of us so neatly allows us to understand and acknowledge what is right in front of us. I know this movie has encouraged me to reevaluate how I casually walk through life. I am truly saddened and ashamed by how far we have fallen…and it has to start with me for I am as guilty as anyone else.
