Well, this was one of the more unusual but very entertaining solo sailing videos that I seen. But the one thing that really hit home, Christian, was your little speech about consciousness and it not being any different at 17 or 78. You see I’m 70 and there are many times that I feel no where near that age. The only thing that brings me back to “reality” is when I see myself in a mirror. You put it into words perfectly, that feeling of self that, at least to me and you, is somewhat ageless.
@hopeitssnowing

Thank you Christian for sail and Bob for this comment. This really hits home with me even at the ripe old age of 39. I still feel like I'm 18 until i look in the mirror too. Christian "That's the secret, who'ever you are now, is who you'll be when you're my age. You are yourself, we all are, and the only job we have is to be it". I cannot like this more, thank you sir!

As a mere 67 year-old I am impressed at your 11 year advantage in knowledge, experience and all the rest. When the topic of age arises I always think of my paternal Grandmother who was born in 1897. In 1997 we had a party to celebrate her century, and during the evening I asked her how it felt to be 100 years old. Her answer will stay with me for the rest of my life. She said, "It's just like being 20 - but your knees don't work the same!" She left us about a year later. 🙂

Christian, of your three crossings, this was my favorite! Great adventure. Loved the music and video as you approached the islands. Enjoyed the banter and philosophical satirical conversations with yourself. The attention to detail you have with every inch of the boat and the regular checks was a learning for me- never assume all is well- proactively identify problems, address them or fix the unexpected issues that ALWAYS come up. I thought your previous crossing would be your last. So glad that you were able to make another. Thanks for the lessons in life, how to be a better sailor, for good laughs, and living out my dreams of sailing to Hawaii.

I was once a sailor and did some single-handed stuff in my Cal 25. But now I'm 78 and my health is such that I must enjoy what other sailors have accomplished. There are many sailing videos on KZbin and I have watched many. None are in my favorites folder but yours. Thank you for allowing me to sail along with you. Blessings, David

I am a sailor who had to sell his love, a Cal 2-27, three years ago when unremitting back pain kept me from walking. Since I could not walk on the moving dock to get aboard my boat, I had to give her up. I am hopeful that someday I will be able to walk, and then I will look for a new boat to sail. Since I have enjoyed your exploits on your Erickson 32’, and then your Erickson 38’, I really like the Erickson brand. I used to lust after a Catalina 30’ but now your sails on the Erickson has changed my mind. Actually I really want to thank you for your U-Tube shows, especially the solo sailing to and from Hawaii. Please keep on sailing and making U-tube video’s for your fans to watch. Watching you really helps me until I can get a new boat to work on and sail. Again, THANK YOU!!! I’ve been watching sailing videos for several years now, dreaming of the day when I can start living my dream. This is my favorite video. I love everything about it. Having a glass of wine with a spam sandwich as the boat rocks hard back and forth…figuring out how to fix the whisker pole and steering mechanism while solo sailing…shaving and keeping the boat tidy…hats off to you sir. You’re an inspiration.

Having watched this I have so many feelings going through me right now. Happy that I've been allowed to share this with Mr Williams and sad that this voyage has ended

I'm only three minutes in but I'm just going to upvote this thing right now. Thank you Christian. I enjoy your videos. BTW, I bought the Alone Together audio book. It's next on my list for my work commute. I also have the Philosophy of Sailing book on my Kindle, which I highly recommend.

I have seen this video numerous times. I enjoy it because it’s simple. But why I keep coming back to seeing it again is because it brings me joy the part you talk about age. I turn 60 in a couple of days, it feels good to age. Thank you.

YESSSSSSSSS..... I've been waiting years for this video. I knew he still had it in him. What a guy Christian is. He makes the absolute best single handed videos I've ever watched. I've never sailed I just live vicariously through him out there.

Mr. Williams.... I must say thank you SIR... I'm 47 and am a single hander living in italy on my 33' comet sailboat... I have sailed around corsica and sardegna and soon I know i will be sailing around the world.... At 50 60 and into my 70s... Your words will stay with me forever. The window of the world through these eyes shall forever be exactly the same... Nothing has changed.... consciousness unaltered by time... and still strong like bull... Frikin awesome.

Coffee and Oreos. You remind me of my dad who is very salty and when everyone else is seasick to the point of debilitation can be found at the helm grinning, holding a Heineken with Fig Newtons falling out of his pockets. I have got to make jerry can holders like yours. Very tidy ship sir. Those big visible chain plates in the cabin are very reassuring.

Thanks for letting me crew again. This is the fourth trip I’ve ‘taken’ with Thelonius. They cheer my day and lower my BP. I’ve many voyages under my keel, but none solo yet.

Thanks for posting your latest sailing adventure. I’m #o happy to see you haven’t bought into the “take it easy” part of growing older with only your fading memories of past excursions as you recline in an easy chair. The reasons we do long distance sailing are many and varied. Each person must do some serious self examination like are we up to the task? I love how you describe doing a typical repair with only a few spare parts and tools, but mainly with experience and ingenuity. You need an eye bolt? You scavenge one from some other place on the boat. Ciao and namaste

Another superb episode Mr. Williams! Although I am baffled as to why no spray dodger or bimini to keep the sun off your skin? Is it because it would adversely affect the wind vane? Dinty Moore rocks!

I'm so glad you post videos. None of the "subscribe and like", background music (unless he is singing it or dancing to it😂), none of the BS. This is just a real man, a real sailor, sailing, and documenting it. Not only is he knowledgeable about sailing, but of everything on a boat, he is knowledgeable with mechanics, sewing, cooking, and fixing in general. I love watching your videos! I have fallen asleep countless times watching your videos late at night after a hard day's work with the vision of one day retiring and joining your sailing spirit on the water.
