Well, this was one of the more unusual but very entertaining solo sailing videos that I seen. But the one thing that really hit home, Christian, was your little speech about consciousness and it not being any different at 17 or 78. You see I’m 70 and there are many times that I feel no where near that age. The only thing that brings me back to “reality” is when I see myself in a mirror. You put it into words perfectly, that feeling of self that, at least to me and you, is somewhat ageless.
@hopeitssnowing3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Christian for sail and Bob for this comment. This really hits home with me even at the ripe old age of 39. I still feel like I'm 18 until i look in the mirror too. As a mere 67 year-old I am impressed at your 11 year advantage in knowledge, experience and all the rest. When the topic of age arises I always think of my paternal Grandmother who was born in 1897. In 1997 we had a party to celebrate her century, and during the evening I asked her how it felt to be 100 years old. Her answer will stay with me for the rest of my life. She said, "It's just like being 20 - but your knees don't work the same!" She left us about a year later. 🙂

Enjoyed the banter and philosophical satirical conversations with yourself. The attention to detail you have with every inch of the boat and the regular checks was a learning for me- never assume all is well- proactively identify problems, address them or fix the unexpected issues that ALWAYS come up. I thought your previous crossing would be your last. So glad that you were able to make another. Thanks for posting your latest sailing adventure. I’m #o happy to see you haven’t bought into the “take it easy” part of growing older with only your fading memories of past excursions as you recline in an easy chair. The reasons we do long distance sailing are many and varied. Each person must do some serious self examination like are we up to the task? I love how you describe doing a typical repair with only a few spare parts and tools, but mainly with experience and ingenuity. You need an eye bolt? You scavenge one from some other place on the boat. Ciao and namaste

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your other videos but this by far is my favorite. Thank you for such great storytelling and inspiration. Expertly done, Sir!

Another superb episode Mr. Williams! Although I am baffled as to why no spray dodger or bimini to keep the sun off your skin? Is it because it would adversely affect the wind vane? Dinty Moore rocks!

I am 69, in my 70th year, making mine sailing course in a few weeks: Yes, learning sailing! This video has encouraged me even more! Thanks, was already a good warming up. I don't think I'll be ever see the big bleu waters, but sure it gives me the right kick under my but. Thanks again!

I'm so glad you post videos. None of the "subscribe and like", background music (unless he is singing it or dancing to it😂), none of the BS. This is just a real man, a real sailor, sailing, and documenting it. Not only is he knowledgeable about sailing, but of everything on a boat, he is knowledgeable with mechanics, sewing, cooking, and fixing in general. I love watching your videos! I have fallen asleep countless times watching your videos late at night after a hard day's work with the vision of one day retiring and joining your sailing spirit on the water.
