Plus the fact that the Hail Mary prayer is literally taken directly from the pages of scripture. The Archangel told Mary that the Lord favored her highly. All straight from scripture. And yet these evangelical, sola scriptura types recoil and hiss at the mere mention of the Ave Maria, and tie themselves into knots trying to explain away how Mary wasn't anybody special, and she was just the vessel by which Jesus came into the world, and nothing else. You cannot be sola scriptura, and deny that Mary is the Mother of Jesus. The two positions are mutually exclusive, and irreconcilable. Protestant tradition is man-made.

In this case the prodestants have it correct after splitting from a roman cult who banned bible translations and burnt people for it. We understand . To be fair our opinion on the matter it's entirely biblical. Prodestants refrain from bowing to images statues this is why our churches are relatively bare.. Of all the sins in the bible idolitary is punished the most severely and most often the book of Judges and the entire journey of the isrelites is about idolitary. Even revelation is about idolitary. Call no one your father but he who is in heaven. Christ said it himself to the pharasies. But these people took that name. That's another reason our pastors are not called father. Having said that, we can agree that salvation alone comes through Jesus. All blessings

Intercession is about praying for someone else. St Paul asks for the intercession of his congregation, Job intercedes for his 3 friends, and so we ask the Mother of God, and all the saints and angels who live with God, to pray for us. It's similar- but not identical- to the way the angels take our prayers to God

@@zyaicob my only problem is that it's found nowhere in the Bible. At some point this doctrine was made up. By whom, I don't know?
@zyaicob4 ай бұрын
@@paulhale3031 we can't say that anything not in the Bible is made up. For one thing, different churches (even churches in communion) have different numbers of books in their Biblical canons, so if I claim something from Enoch or Jubilees or Clement not everyone will have it in their Bible, but we can't doubt the divine inspiration of those books. St John told us (in the Bible) that all the works of Christ weren't recorded in the Holy Scriptures, so believing that, we accept the truth and even infallibility of books that aren't part of the Biblical canon because they're divinely inspired. It is for that reason that the tradition of the apostles is so important, which is why it's mentioned so much in the New Testament. I always feel really bad when I encounter people who have been told centuries of lies and now are very justifiably suspicious of anything not in the Bible, but since there is a necessity for things not in the Bible, the $60 million question is who do you trust to give you the authentic unaltered apostolic tradition? It can't be that everyone who claims it is lying and corrupting it, because that would imply that the church has been destroyed, which our Lord said would never happen, so it's just about which group you trust. That's a question I don't know how to help others answer, because everyone tells a different version of history. But for my part, I believe in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, and I would encourage you to come and see what we (or any of our sister churches) have to offer❤️

I’m still a Protestant, looking into Orthodoxy and Catholicism. The claims of Mary are very interesting. Having been reading the nativity accounts again, I find it interesting that the Holy Spirit is who makes Elizabeth say what she said. “And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth WAS FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. THEN, she spoke out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” Usually, even in the Protestant tradition, we tend to value what the Holy Spirit inspires someone to say.

*The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is the only Orthodox Church that believes in the immaculate conception of Saint Mary* So many other Orthodox churches believe that Saint Mary was cleansed from original sin at the moment of The Annunciation (Saint Gabriel hailing and giving the good news to Saint Mary) however this idea affects the Principles of Salvation: To explain, if the Annunciation of Angels was able to eliminate Original Sin than 1. All the angels from heaven would have healed the world from the Original Sin of Adam but they couldn’t only Christ could do that. 2. To say that Saint Gabriel is able to eliminate sin would make him or any other angel equal to the works of Christ and what Christ did on the cross. 3. We know and understand in Luke 1 when it says the Holy Spirit will “overshadow you” to mean come upon for support and strength - as that is what the Holy Spirit does - and not to cleanse her. What the EOTC confidently believe to be the correct belief is she was “without sin” from the moment she was conceived in her mother’s womb - This was only possible through the grace of God and not by her own will. Had that grace not been applied by God than the God incarnate Jesus would have been in debt as He would have bore the flesh of a sinful women, making His atonement and sacrifice on the cross “un-pure” and not enough. Let alone a fellow Christian we are asked by Christ to 'love our enemy" how much more should we love eachother then? We cannot hate each other and claim to love God. St John said anyone who claims to love God but hates his brother is a liar. For the love of Christ lets love and pray for each other. If Catholics think protestants are wrong pray for them. One needs to know himself/herself first in and out, including his/her soul, and then his/her path will unfold naturally. The good father Farrington seems to be a gentle, honorable, and educated man. I take no issue with the man. However the story of Mary’s childhood which he contributes to church tradition “from earliest times” actually comes from the Syrian text The Infancy Gospel of James, written by the Encratites in the third century. This midrash is a well known heresy and I’m surprised that the good father has contributed it to church tradition. Other than this non- cannon text, nowhere in the first four centuries of church teachings can these assertions be found.
@chrisd6534 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this, I was wondering where this story came from. I'm leaning towards orthodoxy but Mary is my one stumbling block. Is there no evidence from the early church (pre-constantine) that shows that the early church held mary in high regard (i.e., praying to her, etc)?
@neptunetriton3 жыл бұрын
I’ve been going to an Orthodox parish and struggle with this as well; I couldn’t figure out where they were coming up with all this background history of Mary. So I attended the Orthodox 2021 Patristic Nectar conference titled “The Mother of God in Our Lives” where the Bishop relied heavily on source material from what’s known as the “Infancy Gospel” and another text called the “Protevangelion of James”. The conference was recorded and it’s available online for anyone interested. Anyway, both those sources are non-canonical texts, which is why they simply refer to them as “church tradition”. However, things get sticky then because they end up building a lot of doctrine and liturgical practice off of them as if they were authoritative. Which of course begs the question of whether Orthodox (and Roman Catholic) teaching/practice on the topic of Mary go a bit too far and are really unsupported by the rest of the canonical texts….so far, from what I’ve seen, I think they do go a little too far, but try to shoehorn it in, honestly.

Here are the answers: Yes, St. Mary is the Mother of God. I don't know what you mean by that, but if you're meaning something like the co-ruler of the cosmos alongside God, then no. Yes, St. Mary is the Perpetual Virgin. She was married to St. Joseph, yes, but it was a chaste marriage, as we can see from both strong typology in Scripture and church teaching. Since she is now in heaven, yes God grants her, as He does to all saints, abilities beyond the natural, such as more knowledge. This of course does not mean St. Mary, or anyone for that matter, possesses the omni attributes which are of God alone.

Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers and wish to discriminate between Allah and His messengers and say, "We believe in some and disbelieve in others," and wish to adopt a way in between - Those are the disbelievers, truly. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment. But they who believe in Allah and His messengers and do not discriminate between any of them - to those He is going to give their rewards. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful. The People of the Scripture ask you to bring down to them a book from the heaven. But they had asked of Moses [even] greater than that and said, "Show us Allah outright," so the thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf [for worship] after clear evidences had come to them, and We pardoned that. And We gave Moses a clear authority. And We raised over them the mount for [refusal of] their covenant; and We said to them, "Enter the gate bowing humbly", and We said to them, "Do not transgress on the sabbath", and We took from them a solemn covenant. And [We cursed them] for their breaking of the covenant and their disbelief in the signs of Allah and their killing of the prophets without right and their saying, "Our hearts are wrapped". Rather, Allah has sealed them because of their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few. And [We cursed them] for their disbelief and their saying against Mary a great slander, And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah ." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain. Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise. And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in Jesus before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection he will be against them a witness. For wrongdoing on the part of the Jews, We made unlawful for them [certain] good foods which had been lawful to them, and for their averting from the way of Allah many [people], And [for] their taking of usury while they had been forbidden from it, and their consuming of the people's wealth unjustly. And we have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment. But those firm in knowledge among them and the believers believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you. And the establishers of prayer [especially] and the givers of zakah and the believers in Allah and the Last Day - those We will give a great reward. Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. And we revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Descendants, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and to David We gave the book [of Psalms]. And [We sent] messengers about whom We have related [their stories] to you before and messengers about whom We have not related to you. And Allah spoke to Moses with [direct] speech. [We sent] messengers as bringers of good tidings and warners so that mankind will have no argument against Allah after the messengers. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise. But Allah bears witness to that which He has revealed to you. He has sent it down with His knowledge, and the angels bear witness [as well]. And sufficient is Allah as Witness. Indeed, those who disbelieve and avert [people] from the way of Allah have certainly gone far astray. Indeed, those who disbelieve and commit wrong [or injustice] - never will Allah forgive them, nor will He guide them to a path. Except the path of Hell; they will abide therein forever. And that, for Allah, is [always] easy. O Mankind, the Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord, so believe; it is better for you. But if you disbelieve - then indeed, to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. And ever is Allah Knowing and Wise. O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs. Never would the Messiah disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor would the angels near [to Him]. And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant - He will gather them to Himself all together. And as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them in full their rewards and grant them extra from His bounty. But as for those who disdained and were arrogant, He will punish them with a painful punishment, and they will not find for themselves besides Allah any protector or helper. O mankind, there has come to you a conclusive proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light. So those who believe in Allah and hold fast to Him - He will admit them to mercy from Himself and bounty and guide them to Himself on a straight path. Great Quran

Pio who was an adherent, (like you) to "Mother of God"worship, exalting Mary to co-redeemer and intercessor with my Lord Jesus Christ. (I can not say"our" Lord because4 I do not consider you a partaker in God's grace through Jesus Christ alone) fr. Pio is the one who is currently "burning in hell" as you state of his comments about Luther-two reasons are indicative of that. One, that he p;rays to and worships the apparition of "Fatima" and that he was possessed of demons that displayed the "stigmata" in him and thus caused many to be deceived thereby. You refer to the 46 books that Jesus "fulfilled" \, well since you apparently know only "Catholic history" and the Catholic church adheres to a canon of 46 books you do not know the TRUTH that Jesus was a Jew who, during His life on earth, and the fulfillment of the law that He did for us was contained in the 39 books of the Jewish canon at the time. Since you adhere to the papacy as your final authority, and the "{church" that he leads, you subscribe to the 73 books of the Catholic canon, along with many extra-biblical practices and traditions of men. It might be enlightening to you to partake of a little study of the history of the Bible (outside Roman Catholic indoctrination) to learn the truth of scripture apart from your unfortunately biased present understanding.

biggs949597 Both the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox are heretical apostacies that moved away from the original Apostolic church. Beginning with Constantine who first legalized Christianity in 311 the church began to incorporate pagan practices, idols, dates and heresies. True Christians were now being persecuted by the very "church" that was once the Apostolic faith. Eastern Orthodoxy, the harlot sister of Roman Catholicism, split from the RCC in 1054. They had abandoned the faith once delivered to the saints many years before. Being located in the geographical environs of the early church does not make the Eastern Church the same as the Apostle's church.

Try reading "Foxes Book of Martyrs" (available online free in several places) to discover some of the history of the TRUE church. Bob Vanoni I have read most all of the "church fathers" but my faith is not based on their testimony. My faith is in Christ through faith alone. I was bought by the blood of Jesus shed on Calvary and filled with the Holy Spirit, sealed until the Day of His final redemption. I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that HE is able to keep that which I have committed unto HIM against that day. I have been a Christian since 1973, and an ordained minister since 1980. I have been sharing the "Good News" that Jesus (and him alone) saves! I will say to you that if yo will believe on the Lord Jesus Christ you too can be saved, delivered from the fallacy of works salvation that has bewitched you and made you think that you are redeemed when you have in fact been deceived along with literally millions of others who are in that wide way that leads to destruction. Here's a novel idea, instead of reading anything by the church "fathers" or other works post first century, how about taking a little time to sit and read say, the Gospel of John. Then, who knows you may get the idea to read other New Testament Books, even to the Book of Revelation, like Chapter 12-13 where you will read about the "Whore of Babylon" - that "church" to which you belong. You are admonished to come out of her and I pray that you are moved to do just that. There is very little time remaining before your eternal fate is set.

Bob Vanoni in actuality, I was ordained by the local church Biblically, by the laying on of the hands of the Presbytery. Additionally, I had 17 pastors, evangelists, and prophets lay hands on me and annointed me with oil when I was appointed a prophet to the church. You think that you have some sort of "Apostolic" authority through the continuance of the ecclesiastical appointment of the priesthood? All Christians are called to the priesthood with our sole HIGH PREIST, Jesus Christ, who is seated on the right hand of the Father, ever performing intercession (and he alone) for us. There is no " mother" in heaven interceding. Mary is highly favored but she is not a dispenser of grace. Only God dispenses grace which He offers to you if you will believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and that God raised Him from the dead for your justification. There is NO other name under heaven whereby you MUST be saved.
