Christina Aguilera: My Reflection - Vocal Range (2000)
The beginning of Christina Aguilera, she was 19 years old in here. There are some remarkable vocal moments on this concert so I figured that a video to showcase some of them was needed. I edited out the B2.

She belt E5 and F5 like they're nothing and that runs up to F5 6.16 is awesome very supported, resonant, neutral larynx and her voice sounds very light and girly and not dark or deep during her performance here.

Wait she was able to support up to F5. There is an opinion on YT that she can't support above A4. I heard one C5 from her cover of Vision of love when she was a kid. Too me these high belted notes had tongue tension but it was her stylistic choice.
@carloswagner6895

@@Hhjhfu247 When they say she can't support above A4, that's mostly just opinion. She can support much higher but choose not to for stylistic choice. The clip when she was just a kid is not in good audio so we can't tell much and even if she had tension she still can sing really well. Tension doesn't mean no support, support mostly has to do with breathing something Christina has no problem of I'd say.

The I Turn To You E5s here were pretty decent too :) And the phrased E5 in Christmas Time! What do you think of them? Plus there's the E5 in Makes Me Wanna Pray from (not the DVD version)

Elizabeth Rey The "I Turn To You" E5 was her best ever, the clarity was unprecedented as far as live E5 attempts in that song went. But I recall some fans that were at the actual taping of the special saying that it must have been dubbed, because she skipped the note when it actually happened, as she had done in a handful of other performances of the song. It would make sense with the camera view turning to her back on the note, but from my recollection they filmed the special over 2 or 3 nights, so I'm thinking they just took the audio from a performance where she DID hit it and superimposed it over the video. Either way, she obviously hit it at some point which isn't surprising since her voice was clearly in TOP form around the time of that special's taping. The phrased E5s in "Christmas Time" were also fantastic ... there was so much potential. and which Makes Me Wanna Pray performance are you referring to? Link me. :)

I think she is unironically underrated vocalist because she had good technique at the beggining then her technique hot worse with Stripped then raised again with B2B( isn't itonic ?). After she get worse and worse until Liberation but her voice got lower and she isn't able to hit upper belts like F5+ anymore.

In my opinion she dodged the note in I turn to you and then added it in a second moment, using a clip of her singing another part of the song.. Because she couldn't skip the run after the E5, and here she omitted it. Then she ALWAYS puts her arm up when singing that note. So for me you should not count that.. And also the first note of christmas time. Anyway, good video 😊

No worries. Yeah, I have the intention to make a video showcasing Carrie's live vocal range but I am not that familiar with her since I am just starting to get into her music and I recall you are a fan of hers.
@mellynumerounooo6908
@mellynumerounooo6908 8 жыл бұрын
Okay, here's the thing with Carrie ... I was a big fan of Carrie's for a very long time because I liked her voice and recognized the immense potential that it had behind it. I held out hope for several years that she would one day develop an interest in optimizing her instrument's performance and actually take the disciplined steps toward forging that potential. Unfortunately, she's very boring and completely rigid in her way of singing, as she's expressed her unwillingness to receive proper vocal training MANY times. The reason she denies it is because she claimed to have once briefly worked with a vocal coach that tried to "rob" her of her vocal identify by attempting to re-construct her voice in a way that would weed out certain habits that she didn't want to dispense with. Her vocal coach was probably trying to get her to forgo that heavy, full-throated affectation that she loves using to feign the color of a mezzo soprano country voice like the ones that she grew up listening to and infleunced her. Probably tried getting her to drop all of that unnatural weight she tends to bring up and instead work on developing her head voice to get a nice balanced and RESONANT mix working so that she could navigate through her range freely, smoothly, and effortlessly. I guess she wasn't interested in that, and just wanted to keep singing the way that she does. She was also recently asked in an interview what she does to ready her voice before shows to allow her to sing at such high intensity every night without losing her voice, and she said "Oh, I'm good, I was blessed with the ability to just be really loud for long periods of time, I don't do any warmups" ... at that point, I just lost absolutely every ounce of respect for her. She's a lazy, irresponsible, undisciplined, unintelligent vocalist. Great instrument, but doesn't have the ambition, the discipline, nor even the most remote DESIRE to take it to the next level. So I've lost complete interest in her at this point tbh.

If you do want to make a video of her though, I would suggest simply doing a showcase of her BELTS if anything, since that's really the only area of her voice that she seems concerned with. She prides herself on her ability to produce loud, throaty, mid-range belts. Her lower register is God-awful, her head voice is undeveloped and underutilized, and her upper belts are thin, unreliable, and rarely accessed due to her inability to consistently support the sound that high w/ the technique that she uses. I would certainly be able to help you out with that if you want. Let me know. :)

+mellynumerounoo o The way you dragged her tho, lol. A lot of what you said also applies to Xtina. The fact that they both chose to stay in the wrong path is frustrating. Guess you haven't had much luck when picking your fave singers, haha. After what you said I think I am just gonna do a belts showcase, what is her highest belt? I remember F#s from Alone.
@mellynumerounooo6908
@mellynumerounooo6908 8 жыл бұрын
Jon This is going to be long, because I'm going to explain how it's different with Christina, so just bear with me lol. With Xtina I feel that it's very different, because she's at least vocally ambitious and intuitive EVEN if she doesn't want to bow down to the technical standards of singing and compromise the vocal identity that she's carved out for herself. & that's another thing .. Xtina has a SIGNATURE sound that is widely associated with her, and its range of influence has been very significant in that it's even transcended genres; Her vocal style has been cited as a major inspiration for many artists that came after her, across different genres - and the influence is evident IN their actual vocal stylings. Now as far as having that kind of influence goes, Carrie had less of an advantage on that front to start with since she chose country music, a genre that virtually nobody outside of certain parts of the U.S. even checks for. But regardless, Carrie's "sound" is just that of a crystal-clear big voice with the ability to sustain notes - nothing groundbreaking, or that anybody associates with just "Carrie." So in her case, I think that making a few changes and weeding out certain habits that lend to her overall sound would be less of a CAREER concern than maybe it would be for Christina. Let's get back to Christina just being more vocally ambitious, intuitive, and passionate than Carrie. One thing you have to give Christina is that she's VERY experimental with her voice, playing around with different sounds and developing different parts of her voice that she chooses. Even if she doesn't follow the correct "rubric," she's absolutely very intuitive about her own voice and knows exactly how to work it to achieve the sounds that she desires. She's very methodical in her approach too, you could tell just from the way she broke down the ANOM run for her Masterclass. She said she'll actually have the idea for a vocal run in her head at first, and upon its initial conception will be much slower than the way we finally hear it until she figures out all of the specific intricacies she wants it to have - and sometimes she'll even mark them down on a paper. THAT'S skill and that's passion. Probably why Dj Premier said she was like a "mad scientist" in the studio during B2B recording sessions. The way she developed her falsetto as well early in her career. What seemed as "exclamations" as first, she was able to work into her singing. I remember sometimes when she would do actual little screams and exclamations to the audiences when she first came out, it would sound so similar to her high falsetto notes, but they just weren't in musical form. But it would almost seem like she was kind of practicing them and warming up her voice to hit them when she'd do those little screams and whatnot. Carrie has always done high 6th octave exclamations too, with similar ease and clarity to Xtina's. But Carrie never worked to develop them into her singing. Why not? Carrie also has shown flashes of having a very agile voice w/ an ability to execute riffs and runs ... yet rarely EVER does so, and didn't bother to hone in on that ability to perfect it. Why not? This bitch doesn't even warm up her voice before a live show. I can't lmao. Christina at least has shown vocal DRIVE and passion throughout the course of her career. That's why even to this day, I still think Christina knows the "technical" way she should be singing, because she's far too passionate about her craft and done far too much exploration on her own to have never stumbled upon that "correct" path. She just chooses to do what she wants. & in her case, I think it's more forgivable than it is for Carrie when you account for all of those other factors I mentioned.

For the successive E5s in the song with Miranda Lambert, you may be able to rip a better quality video than I did.
