At the end of 1957, Agnes Martin rented a loft at 27 Coenties Slip for forty-five dollars a month, inaugurating one of the most experimental periods in her long career. Christina Rosenberger, author of Drawing the Line: The Early Work of Agnes Martin, examines the arc of Martin’s early career, her productive confrontations with artists such as Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Indiana and Lenore Tawney, and the vibrant artistic networks that developed between California, New Mexico, and New York in the post-war period.
Public Program of the Menil Collection, Houston, TX. May 24 2017.
