I think you did great! This stuff is harder than it looks. I recently decluttered my closet and tried to create a capsule wardrobe. My maybe pile was bigger than I liked. Lol I took a tip from Audrey Coyne and put the maybe pile out of sight and in a few weeks if they don't cross my mind while getting ready then I guess I don't need them. Lol Now I need to declutter my drawers and the rest of my life. 😂😂😂

Hi. I live in Denmark where the weather changes a lot during the year. I fold my summer clothes ( shorts, tops, dresses) in the fall and put in a big bag in the top a my hall closet. I doesn't have a to stay in the everyday closet. Vice versa in the spring/summer. Nice video⛄🎅🌲

Loved your Video! If you get tired at the end and struggle to let go more and more you could start with your jackets the next time when decluttering. That May help with the decision process. You could also mark your maybe clothing somehow (safetypins in label?) and remove it when worn. That way you know for sure if you have worn it. Looking foreward to the next videos. Lots of greetings from Germany.

I love the “hanger trick” for maybes. Keep them for now, flip the hanger backwards and if you haven’t worn it in another 3 months say adios!! When I’m really in the mood, I do it with my whole closet and won’t repeat a top until I’ve worn everything. That’s a cold dose of reality there.
@faeriesmak5 жыл бұрын
I am glad that you showed your mixed emotions about everything. It was much more realistic of a declutter than a lot of other ones that I have watched. I start to second guess and try to rationalize keeping things as well...and that’s usually when I stop for the day because it’s a sign that I have mental fatigue! You did well! I am on the same path with my clothing and need to revisit my wardrobe again. Each time I go through things I get a better and better sense of what I actually wear and actually like. I am not where I want to be with mine but I am trying to be realistic and optimistic.
@lischiAK5 жыл бұрын
Best way to not fill up the hangers again is buy getting rid of them. I did that and it was so "scary" because of course if I need them again I'm just wasting money. However if you really don't want to fill up the space again getting rid, of the space by throwing out the hangers. Thats just the perfect way of securing your efforts. If you are out of hangers, you need to be damn sure you like the thing you buy more than something else in your closet cause they have to give up their hanging spot.

Great video and lovely transparency of your feelings about it. I started a couple of years ago on my 'minimalism' journey, though I am far from a minimalist. And thanks for the inspiration for my own closet clear out. It's been a minute...

Have you considered using Stylebook (the app) or something similar? It really helped me better understand what I actually wore. Essentially you take photos of all your clothes and have a digital closet on the app. Every day you update it with what you wore, and by the end of a month/season/year you concretely know how many times you actually used each item. It’s super useful/eye opening!

You did great! I know how you feel about decision fatigue at the end. Here are a couple things that helped me. Maybes go in a covered maybe box in your closet or another room. If you don’t pull it out in 3 months or 6 months, you don’t go through the box again-just donate. Also, you can try putting back into your closet only things you love and wear a lot. Then, live with only wearing that for a couple weeks. I found it easier to get rid of things after time passed and I was loving how easy it was to get dressed!

Keep the jacket for now! Now that you've decluttered maybe you will wear it more cuz you can reach for it easier. If you haven't worn it after winter maybe then get rid of it :) I started decluttering last fall and it gave me so much rest in my head! I never stand before my closet wondering what to wear but now i know what i can wear! My tip if you feel defeated after decluttering; do it item by item. One day look at all your outerwear and declutter. Other day look at bottoms and declutter. If you make it smaller you energy levels stay better :)

Work clothes which are very casual because I don’t work in a fancy environment. My work clothes are very comfortable. But then I also have to keep some clothes for times in my life when I need to dress up. And lastly I struggle with weight fluctuations. I love your vids ❤️ I am currently decluttering my whole home, clothes, decor, everything. 2019 was not a good year, I messed up big time and bought waaaaay too much stuff. I know why and I am working on that. So I am decluttering yet again. For my closet, I use all different methods. This time I am storing away my spring/ summer items. I use all the same kind of hangers and same color. When I wear something, I will turn the hanger around. I am not keeping extra hangers and I am going to use the “1 in, 1 out” rule, then I have no wiggle room to buy anything new. I try to sell what I declutter at Plato’s Closet and what they don’t take, I immediately drop off at a donation box/store. I use to try to sell online but then the stuff just stayed in a bag in my home and I would find myself going through it and taking stuff out (and of course I never wore those things and had to declutter again later!). For my household stuff, I am wrapping the good stuff up for white elephant games and the rest Is being donated. I am going to start 2020 off FRESH! Plus, we are moving in a few months so it will be much easier with less stuff!

An interesting thing I heard once is to keep those things you ‘like’ or ‘rationalize’ or your ‘maybe’ pile in a separate place from your regular clothes and use the clothes that you did want to keep on the daily. If ever you want something or wish you had something from that pile then it might be worth keeping. Or when you really feel like shopping and you can’t shake it, ‘shop’ your maybe pile and see if something in there will satisfy you. Soon you realize you never wear the clothes and you can get rid of them, but you also didn’t act rashly and get rid of something good just because you want to be a ‘minimalist’. I think the goal, for me, is always to waste less and I’ve on a few occasions got rid of things I regretted later. Just a thought. Just discovered your channel and I’m loving it. Thank you for being so mindful, real, and thoughtful in your videos.

I know you have a complicated relationship with your wardrobe but, from the outside looking in, I have some SERIOUS wardrobe envy. Your style is everything I've been trying to curate in my own wardrobe for the past 5 years. I'd love to see a video where you talk about what you look for in your purchases (or maybe what you used to look for)/ how you decide if they are your style or not. I know you say you would 'see it and want it' which I'm sure is true, but it's obvious you have a very specific color palette and silhouette you go for that I'd love to hear more about. If you don't think it would send you into a spend spiral, that is 😅

Then, I kept “collecting” clothes until 1 1/2 yrs ago when I did a “big purge”!!! So, I felt good!! I did a little purge in fall... So, I am not liking the part of my everyday clothes for winter is kinda like a capsule wArdrobe...I’m down to 7 light long sleeve... I don’t feel like I have enough clothes...I would feel better at around 12...but, I don’t have any tops in my “good” clothes to step down to the everyday tops...I don’t want to buy clothes just to wear everyday around the house... I have built up my “good clothes” again...which I need to stop buying...I have enough... Debating how to have a few more everyday clothes...
