I was going to a friend's house cross country and I knew I was going to be there for a week and he was not a coffee drinker. I ordered a tiny little single coffee maker. It was like 12 bucks on Amazon and had it shipped to his house. So when I got there, it was there, and then I just put the little tiny machine in my suitcase. And brought it home. I think if coffee is that big of a deal like it is to me. It's up to you to make sure that you have it. Otherwise, don't expect other people to prioritize coffee like you do.

Or, hey, there is a coffee shop down the street, you like coffee, ill buy you a coffee and we can talk and get to know each other. But its also obvious the girlfriend gets everything she wants and like the boyfriend spoils her and or girlfriend is spoiled and one bad thing happens (like not having a coffee maker) and the whole trip is ruined

1. Go to a coffee shop and get a coffee. They don't drink coffee so don't expect them to buy a coffee pot and stuff to make it for a once a year visit. 2. that coffee GF is the worst guest ever. We raised our white elephant from $25 to $30 this year 😂 some people don't play and still have fun watching the fun. Can't they just go anyway and eat and drink and laugh on the sidelines?

Huge pet peeve of mine is when people call any old exchanging of gifts a White Elephant -- if the gifts are anything other than amusing/impractical, it is simply a gift exchange, not a White Elephant.

omg the coffee one drives me insane! I’m a huge coffee drinker and I could think of at least two ways the guest and host could have made that whole exchange so much easier. Pour over coffees are so simple and very space efficient. Either the host could go get one for like $13 bucks at walmart and some decent ground coffee, or the guest could have packed it themselves - it’s that small and easy to travel with. the other option is a stove top espresso maker, those are classic and ready in minutes. Ahhhh! people are so annoying lol

As a coffee drinker, if im in vacation or just away from home i will find the nearst coffee shop or cafe and get my iced lattes from there...i dont expect people to have it on hand for me, heck i dont even like hotel room coffee, nope, i will walk of drive out of my way to go get what i want, 2 min drive is heaven! That gf should have just gone...sheesh what a Karen!

No. If they know after the 1st time that you don't have a coffee machine and don't drink coffee, then you should NOT have to have a coffee machine for guests. They can bring their own instant coffee machine or go to the shop 2 minutes away. She's being very snotty about it. You offered her a solution to drive her and even buy it. It may be nice for you to have instant coffee, just because she makes such a huge deal out of it.

For the coffee one, they can get instant coffee to have on hand. In no way should they have to keep a coffee maker for someone who might come every other year. Plus, she's the GF of a friend. She's there as a plus one. She knows they dont have coffee there. It's up to the GF, as the asshole For the white elephant one, skip it. The fact her parents and some siblings said she was overacting was brutal. I can imagine being in that family. Sounds like their the black sheep. $250 for a gift, let alone a white elephant gift, is crazy. You should not be expected to go into debt for gifts. If they can't afford gift giving due to a crap, expensive year, then no one gets a gift. And if it's all about being together, dad, then don't say they're overacting. Rude. That whole family are assholes, not the writer. That last one giving the keys out, definitely the asshole. Doing as he pleases and then apologizing doesn't work. This isn't a case of "it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission." I feel bad for his GF. He definitely doesn't consider her feelings about this, I imagine he's like that with everything. Trying to make himself sound like a guy trying to please everyone, he comes off as a dick instead. He even says his sister has been in their apartment without notice. She comes and goes as she pleases. That's not right and shouldn't be rewarded with a key. Dude, you're doing it wrong. You have no respect for your GFs feelings. You're the asshole.
