A dialogue about what Christmas means to both Muslims and Christians.
In the Christmas season, January 2021, two international scholars and a number of religious leaders, both Christian and Muslim, reflect on a familiar and profound story. The story of Christmas is shared by two faiths which have often been at odds with one another, with the accounts given by the evangelists Luke and Matthew finding their parallels in Surahs 3 and 19 of the Qur’an which take up the Annunciation to Mary and the Nativity.
In this recording you are welcomed by Canon Anthony Ball, Rector of St Margaret’s Church, and, after a reading of the scriptural texts, Professor Karl-Josef Kuschel, Professor Emeritus of Catholic Theology at the University of Tübingen author of the book 'Christmas and the Qur’an', introduces them and Imam Dr Muhammed Gamal Abdelnour, Faculty Member at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, offers a response. There are then questions from Archbishop Mouneer Anis, Professor Mona Siddiqui, Prince Asfa-Wossen Asserate and Bishop Rob Gillion with which the two panellists engage.
