CHRISTMAS Costs Me NOTHING!! HOW I Afford Nice Christmas Gifts for $0 - Mom of 8 Kids

I've been a stay at home mom for 20 years on a low income. Here is how I am able to buy nice Christmas gifts for my large family year after year and pay $0 dollars! I call this brilliant and I have no stress getting my kids the toys they want for the Christmas Holidays! I also talk about other money (or budget) strategies I did in the previous years back when my oldest kids were still little, ALL without getting any free handouts or donations from organizations or people!
Recently my husband of 20 years and biological father of our 8 children suddenly passed away (on July 16, 2023). Adjusting to the sudden trauma and shock has been the hardest thing we have had to go through in our entire lives! Our 8 children spent their whole lives having their father by their side at home, guiding them. Now this grave loss has caused a ripple affect not only in our daily lives but emotionally, as well as a great looming uncertainty.

Rosalie, I am blown away by your method, it's brilliant. I might start using the Rosalie method myself lol. Some parents think they need to buy a ton of gifts for their kids and I think that's ridiculous. 3 things they really want is plenty. Do what I do Christmas eve. I make cookies,fudge and hot chocolate and read my great grand babies a Christmas story. I did that with my kid's and grand babies and they always look forward to it. Also I saw where your video said, "No handouts, 0 cash". If people feel inclined to help you don't ever think of it as a handout. Everyone knows you're struggling in your present situation and there are good people who just want to help. Consider it as a blessing, and graciously accept it. It blesses you, your children and the one giving. Especially during the Holidays. Everyone sees how frugal you are so they know your not asking for handouts. Just wanted to say that. I think you're doing a great job. I left an abusive relationship and had to figure out how to be self sufficient and I only had 3 kids so I can't imagine doing it with 8. Wow! This made me go back and see what we earned in points on our Walmart/Capital One credit card. I always have credited the card with the cash as the points come in. I added up last years and it was over $450. This year I will be sure to pay bills, groceries and all purchases with the card. Cannot wait to see what we have in points for Christmas shopping! We always did stockings but I only had 3 kids. You have 8 so I get it. I put candy, fruit and a few little Dollar Tree items and their stockings were their favorite thing. They always wanted them 1st and were delighted with whatever they got. Everybody has their own traditions so it's all good.

We got a game for the family and another family gift like a hair dryer! My grandmother would buy us a small gift usually clothes and the other grandparents $5.00 if they had any money to give us. My mother always said Christmas food was what was important. We had extra food which was a real treat! Sometimes we even got to drink soda if company came. It was kept in the basement so we'd have it for guests! My mother said soda was full of sugar and should be drunk on rare occasions! She was so right! When we got sick that ginger ale sure tasted good! The funny thing is my father sold soda for many years. The soda was given to him for holidays and we never bought any. He got 3 cases of 24 bottles each year!

I'm sorry Mimi. I know how hard it is. I left a very abusive relationship 30 years ago with three kids. I was married at 16 and had never been on my own. That's one reason I stayed so long. He always told me I'd never make it alone and I believed it. I finally got the courage to leave because if I stayed any longer he would have ended up killing me and I had so much guilt over letting my kids go through that bs because I was too afraid to leave. I learned pretty quick I could do it alone and the only help I had was food stamps which was a huge help. It wasn't easy but you do what you gotta do. Good luck and Merry Christmas 🎄

I use a budget of about $100 per kid but no limit on the number of items. Some kids do get more than others but my 8- and 12-year-old understand that they may want things more expensive than my 4-year-old. What if you gave the scribble scrubbies to Empress and her and Passion could share them and then Passion could get what she wanted and keep the mini coffin?

You’re a great example for other mothers with a lot of children. I raised 2 boys and they were spoiled. Do they like Lego’s? My boys loved them! Infact we came to Canada to the Lego park in Toronto. Hi Rosalie, what a awesome vlog, you doing a great job...My dad would tell us how much our gifts on his budget like a 100.00..there were us 3 girls, we all 6 yrs apart...so if we spent one item on 100 that was it...he didnt play, we got stockings, but not expensive, like socks, candy cane, a big one, a few chocolate candies, walnuts, pecans, orange, apple, toothbrush, gum, etc...but that was it...we would go Mid night mass, come home have hot chocolate and muffins, then to bed for xmas morning...we always got some books...but anyway we enjoyed our xmas...My Grandpa was a preacher so hed go around on xmas and pick up all us grandkids and off to church we went...good memories...anyway, do you all have a Five Below, you can order on line if you dont have it in Canada, they have tech stuff, books, coloring books, puzzle books etc...stuffies any kind, room decorations, j7st cute stuff at low prices...check them out and they been having deals on shipping, ok what about Ollies, oh great prices on books, any kind, toys discounted prices, clothes, art and crafts, etc...check them out...and dollar tree...well thank you showing us how you budget etc...really nice, hope u do a budget on how u save money for bills...ok you all have a Merry Christmas, God Bless you all, stay warm and be safe...😊

“Merry Christmas” your very resourceful, that’s an awesome idea!! We use an American Express card for everything to get the miles to fly for free for vacations. We pay it off when the bill comes too otherwise it wouldn’t be worth having to pay the interest. Even as an adult, I love the fantasy and excitement of Santa and the decorations, Christmas Lights, I love to make everything feel magical for our young grandchildren. The oldest being just four. I Decorate an area of our house as if you’ve entered Santa’s house at the North pole, it’s magical and the kids love it, I get joy out of their excitement… I would love to hear your budgeting strategies, I love to save where I can!!

This is absolutely brilliant! It’s wonderful how you’ve mastered a method that you’re able to utilize for Christmas. I had 3 girls and I always made sure they had the same number of gifts to open. Great, informative video, thank you Rosalie! I would be very interested in budget saving tips and organization etc. Wishing my credit was better to be able to use your method. But I’m working on it. 😊 My only child is now 22 years old and just graduated from University this past June. She’s quite independent and lives on her own. So now, it’s only me. I’m in dire need of budgeting skills due to being disabled and on SSDI. Every single dollar counts!

You really have it together, more so than most people with smaller families. I lost my husband 9 years ago, All my kids are older and gone. God Bless you I can’t imagine raising kids being a widow. Don’t let anybody tear you down until you’re not doing good enough because you are.

I always read the Night before Christmas on Christmas Eve and the baby Jesus would appear in our manger scene. Also read the story of Baby jesus from the Bible. Some bake a cake for Jesus's birthday.

Some stores if you have your receipt and it goes on sale within 30 days they will refund you the difference. It is easier for them than to have you return it and go buy from the store where it is on sale. I like to get things early so I always check if my store does that before I buy the gift. They always match the price for me.

U might could open up ur own business at ur house, make an Office for urself, sell ur financial advice, on A spread sheet, example of. Unless u would lose ur government help.. I hope ur children are getting their monthly checks from Government and u too. Food Stamps, Assistance, Housing, I wonder if you could choose a larger house, Bunk Beds for the boys in 1-2 rooms, any way to make more space. U R sooper dooper!

My 5 year old girl LOVES Magic Mixies, its her ultimate favorite toy! haha We never buy refills, she is always happy with just the toy afterwards, and plays with it all the time :)

Thank you for sharing; sounds like you are great planner and money-wise. You could have a business helping others implement this with their finances. Maybe you could start cultivating friendships; start by talking to one person from church or a neighbor. Having aquaintances and friendships outside of being a mother might really be fulfilling, esp. since your husband has passed.
