What should I avoid on Christmas day because it’s close. I plan to do Madrid December 24-25 and maybe 26 based off of the things that might be closed.

Hi! To be honest I don’t remember exacts. I live in madrid now and I can tell you, you’ll for sure find restaurants open and things to do (not all, but some). All I remember last year was that we walked around. A lot of people out!

Hi! Yes! I have been here for Christmas and NYE twice already. It depends on what you like. I think i like it for Christmas because the environment everywhere is nice, energized, xmasy, lights everywhere, people are out and about, happy excited. The first year we went to a restaurant with live music and it was amazing and beautiful. The second time, we jus that dinner, but went out for a walk late at night and the city was alive. Now, NYE -- first year i had COVID so i didn't go out. Second year, we went to Sol, which was pretty overwhelming for me. I was also pregnant, but its those type of situations that feels like a music festival, with just too many things going on and people doing different things. People in Madrid like to be out and party and have fun, so it was just too much for me. The streets where packed with people and streets where dirty, and cops everywhere. just not my taste at this point -- all this to see fireworks at midnight. i did not enjoy it lol and didn't get to see fireworks. i think this is fun if you have an apartment with a view around sol where you can see fireworks and see everything from above lol - but not be iN it. but again, some of my family members thought that was very fun. so it's up to you! If you have kids or like the cute/fun Xmas vibes i would do Xmas. If you want go out, party, and have fun, then NYE. @@xo7454

@@dani-moves thank you for the response! I love Christmas more (TBH), as I'm not into clubbing and partying anymore. But I like to see the fireworks as a bucket list of the best NYE celebrations in the world. I've been to Vegas, London, Banff, Quebec for NYE fireworks. So I thought maybe Spain or Portugal would be next this year. I know I will be turned off by drunks and garbage though. LOL

@@xo7454 My pleasure! I also asked my partner what he thought I should recommend you, and he agreed with me! He thinks the energy during Christmas is more fun and "Christmasy". The vibe changes slightly for NYE. And WOW you are collecting some epic NYE experiences indeed! good for you.! Hmm ugh i don't want to misguide you, but don't think Madrid's NYE can be compared to those you have gone to (it's def at a lower level). Maybe it could help you to watch videos online about how the fireworks go... we waited for like an hour at Sol and from the angle we were, we couldn't even see them. We saw the fireworks from a reflection from a window lol. Pretty much, you have to get to Sol station early, get your spot, and not move until the fireworks are done, because at a certain time they close all the streets so you can't go in anymore, and from the outside streets you cant really see them clearly. but again, maybe we were really unlucky. Mabye also look up Vienna, and cities in Germany. But don't get me wrong, Madrid is FUN! and amazing! I just prefer to stay home for NYE or go to a specific place instead of the business of Sol. I live here currently lol so if you have questions let me know.
