Vielen Dank also fuer die Bereicherung meines dritten Advent-Sonntag 2017 . . . mit Gruss aus Canada 🎄✨🎄

@Brenda Levy Tate so what interpretation would you like to suggest? I think we should not be harsh on Mr. Cohen. My take is that he is silently crying for help spiritually but doesn't realize it. Anyway Scripture says in St. John 10:16 And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd. There you go, it is in the Catholic teachings that in the end Jesus will convert the Jews then it will be the end of the world. The Israelites will recognize the Messiah they missed 2,000 years ago. Welcome to the Fold!!!! Pax tecum.

TO ADD, LOVE THIS CONDUCTOR...BUT, THIS IS NOT CHRISTMAS HYMNS...THIS IS OPERATIC/CLASSICAL...SOMETHING YOU CAN LISTEN TO ANY TIME OF YEAR...;) SORRY, I WOULD HAVE TO PASS ON THIS, IF I WAS LIVING IN VIENNA, FOR A MORE 'CHRISTMAS ORIENTED CONCERT'...;)
@alexandrecosta27085 жыл бұрын
Sorry to say, but I feel somewhat disappointed - good performances but it seems more a "Promenade" kind of concert , mixing "easy listening" pieces with less traditional arias and chorus. Therefore, if there is someone to blame, the artistic dioretor who selected the pieces is the "weakest link". Wien und ORT deserve better. Thank you.

WHAT A DREADFUL BEGINNING TO A 'CHRISTMAS CONCERT' - BEAUTIFUL VOICES BUT AN IRREVERENT SONG BY LEONARD COHEN, A MAN WHO DID NOT BELIEVE IN CHRIST & HIS GIFT OF SALVATION, AS FAR AS I KNOW...DEPRESSING, WHEN CHRIST CAME TO LIFT US UP AND GIVE US JOY & HOPE THROUGH HIS SALVATION THAT HE PURCHASED FOR US, THROUGH THE CROSS...IN FUTURE, I PRAY, THAT THESE CONCERTS WOULD GLORIFY THE LORD WHO GAVE US HIS GRACE, THROUGH HIS BIRTH/DEATH & RESURRECTION>WITHOUT IT, WE WOULD HAVE NO CHRISTMAS>CHRIST IS CHRISTMAS...;)
@gertvenghaus37627 жыл бұрын
Irreverent ???? The guys music was brilliant, especially his 'Hallelujah'. If only those who believe in all the fairy tales were allowed to sing and be heard, it would be a very thin choir. And about that "lifting us up".......tell that to the starving millions of children. I just came back from one of the most serious drought in East Africa, there was nothing "uplifting" Christmas to be felt. Why can't people simply enjoy good music instead of ultracritical analyses. And in case you don't know: When posting messages in CAPITAL letters, it means you are screaming ! Neither very christmassy not very Christian.
@claudiasmemaw7 жыл бұрын
You admit to not knowing Mr. Cohen personally, yet, you opted to heap your vitriolic, judgemental condemnation upon his head! Do you know what, if anything, he believed? I think Gandhi said something like 'I have no problem with Jesus; it's his followers who scare me' & frankly, You scare the pod-wads out of me! You don't come across as 'joyful, hopeful, gentle, with the milk of human kindness flowing though your veins, full of the Christmas spirit. God was serious about that 'love thy neighbor' stuff. Be that as it may, I wish you & yours the merriest of Christmases & a wonderful New Year!

Do you not realize that Jesus was a Jew, as was Mr. Cohen? Or that "Hallelujah" means "Glory to the Lord"? Or that the song most likely contains allusions to King David, whose lineage was also that of Jesus? That the reference to a broken Hallelujah could imply that humanity messes up sometimes, collectively or individually, but that God is accepting of our flaws as well as of our holiness? There's also a verse about Samson, the strong man betrayed by Delilah who cut his hair and robbed him of his power, yet he managed in the end to redeem himself ... as do many of us, even when we fail. We can rise above ourselves and do something noble. "And even though it all went wrong/I'll stand before the lord of song/With nothing on my tongue but hallelujah". He - David, or maybe the speaker who could be a contemporary man - will face his Maker with praise but no excuses. That's as honest and humble as it gets. David the king has to accept that he has murdered the husband of Bathsheba, his beautiful obsession. Yet he still feels that he'll stand before the holy throne and perhaps give an acceptable account of himself. He is a man conflicted. He has done a terrible thing, out of lust. But he has never turned from wanting to make it right with God, somehow. The speaker also says "You say I took the name in vain/I don't even know the name/But if I did, well really, what's it to you?" The question is: what name? David is a man of faith, but he can't know anything about Jesus, of course, long before the birth of Christ. Perhaps there is a suggestion that we shouldn't judge other people's faithfulness or worthiness. We need to look after our own. It is hardly an irreverent song. Very much the opposite. Jesus would certainly have known the history of his own people and his own familial background. He was deeply respectful of that history and said that he came not to overturn the law (of the Torah), but to fulfill it. He remained a Jew until his death. It always amazes me how little many Christians seem to know about their own Bible, or about the story of their Messiah. Peace and joy!
