Too bad the calf didn't make it, poor thing. Christmas Day we went to Burnside Cemetery, to visit with my Mom and Dad. The fog was ridiculous, we got to Port Huron on Christmas day, it was blue skies, sunshine and 52 degrees. We came home yesterday, once we crossed the half way point of the Mackinac Bridge, the fog cleared and the rain stopped.

I feel your pain pulling that calf. No one knows how truly difficult it is to reposition a calf until they've done it. It can be quite challenging. The joys of cattle farming.

I worked on a family owned dairy farm about 20 yrs ago. Since I didn't have a family at the time,I worked all the holidays so the guys with family could be with them. Of course we had a momma having a hard time calfing on Christmas Day, so I had to help her by myself. What a rewarding feeling. I sat there in the pen for a bit kinda crying happily that "we" saved the calf!! Love your vids Kip. Keep up the good work & Happy New Year!!

As an early teenager, I remember picking blueberries on farms around Imlay City. I probably ate as many blueberries as I picked. It's good the farmer didn’t exit weigh us! Lol😊😊

The oil filter is behind the cover in back left corner! 😅 Couldn’t help but yell at the screen when I saw that. Worked at a Case IH dealership for 5 years before returning to my family’s dairy farm this past June. Great videos, keep it up!

When I had cattle I also worked in town. I lost a couple of first calf heifers because I was at my job. At are state fair the school of agriculture has a birthing barn. The city slickers flock in to look at the calves and piglets. Their are students in scrubs. Their is always a granulated vet on hand. That has been a good information source for me. God will help if you let him!

Well then I guess it isn’t so bad that Hunt Farms still has corn standing in Lapeer. Or at least the fields behind the house. A channel I watch in New York everyone comments about him not getting the corn off, it’s too high moisture. He has low spots and has had lots of rain like us. There’s a little pothole in the woods that’s just about to the overflow level. It takes a lot of the field runoff. Normally it isn’t that full until spring thaw. I appreciate the care you put into your animals. Happy New Year Kip and family

Keep a eye on the engine belts on that Newholland skid steer because the one at the farm I work on shredded a belt when it hit just over 900 hours and it is a know problem with them and it is very difficult to do because you can just barely get your arms in there to work.

To change your oil look up a mighty vac fluid extractor. The other thing that works well is build a hose with a shut off valve that will thread into you oil pan. I did this on a skid steer and log skidder. That also worked great.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024 to you and family Kip. Really nice to see life on the farm. It teaches many life lessons. My parents and inlaws both grew up on farms in Ireland back in the 1940's and 1950's. Some modern machinery back then but same as today requires work ethic and a love above all. Really nice to see the cousins and friends having some much fun. Be well. GOD BLESS. WOLVERINE!!!!

I love your channel and that you are in MI. You show what good farming is all about especially with the close family connection. I would ask the young man not to move any cattle but especially the young ones with his feet. I know he is not trying to harm them. If you have ever been hit with something hard on your tendon you know how painful it is. When we know better we do better. When I see all the things you do to keep your animals not only comfortable but happy I know he is not purposely trying to hurt them. Happy New Year to you and your family! Wishing you continued success! 👏❤️👏

Thanks for another great video Kip. It was most interesting. Looks like your family had a nice Xmas get together in your garage. Lots of good food and gifts. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of the families. Sorry you lost that calf. That happens. You did your best but didn’t survive. Thanks for trying Kip. Your helped that big bull calf get out also and it survived. You and either lance or Lonnie helped again on that one. Nice work Kip. Getting that ditch area cleaned up bit by bit. Putting that drain tile down will help. Nice work. Your skid loader has a hard way to drain the oil it seems. Wow. You would think it would be better than laying down to drain the oil. Oh way, you got it snd the oil changed. Good work. About it I guess. Thanks for all of the 2023 videos Kip. They are appreciated. Looking forward to 2024 videos. The Iowa farm boy.

What a nice looking heifer! Beautiful udder from the shot we saw. Just curious are records kept as to who is the dam and something about the bull maybe his good traits, or where he came from. And if you don't change to AI maybe going forward pictures of the bull and traits he passed on. Or if the farm is planning on starting AI keeping track would really be a good plan going forward. It would allow you to breed traits in or out. It looked like a great Christmas. I Hope you have a safe and prosperous new year. Just a side note. Kip you are a truly blessed man. All those healthy kids, a new wife and health scares. Most importantly and why I really respect you, is for your service for this country at a time when the world was so uncertain. Then come home to to work on the family farm and feed the nation too. Not only are you truly blessed. You are an outstanding roll model. Keep on being the man you are, you are making a difference in the world.

So you knew when you seen afterbirth coming out of that cow which you said usually means there is something wrong why would you not instantly check on the calf's position insider her. If you already though the calf was dead why leave the cow to suffer to push it out for another hour. It's like you said saving moma is the most important thing
