Looks like the flame retardant in that old chair was doing its job. (Note: Given a little more time and fuel, such as curtains / rugs / presents - the chair would have suddenly exploded into flames. That retardant in the exterior cloth is only supposed to protect against cigarettes. It buys you time for egress - but not much!)
