This is the type of holiday creations I live for. Many years ago I went to a work christmas party and wore a christmas tree print dress from blackmilk, wrapped myself in lights like you used, made a tiara of a wreath and more lights (battery packs stuffed down the back of my dress) and slaughtered a santa hat to glue onto a pair of discount shoes. Oh and I added bells to the shoes because I'm evil to people around me. It was so silly and fun, and I got a lot of comments on it. Your skirt absolutely feels like the top tier version of my hack and slash; but makes me so warm remembering that fun party. Oh, and every time someone asked me how the lights are powered, I'd wink and say "Wireless technology", which as the night wore on, people would believe for a moment because silly.

The ruby slippers gave me a real "Wizard of OZ" vibe. Click your heels three times and say "There's no place like home." (where you can take off the skirt and actually sit down.) It looks great!

That is absurdly wonderful! I love how you looked at all the existing inspiration photos and then made this actual wearable and storable version. A question about wearing it - I assume you cannot sit down ever due to the pine garland and ornaments on the back? I love the idea of wearing something like this to a party but sitability is key for longer events, for me at least.

You wear gym shorts and learn the hoop skirt sit - back up to the seat and perch with the hoops up and on the seat. They should spread out to show off the walking sculpture you’re wearing. There a mid 19th century small sofa called a settee that’s made for the ladies to perch on, though in a long gown you sit between hoops.

This is...horrendous in the best and most endearing way possible. Like...in that ugly Christmas sweater kind of way....but with far more class. THOSE SHOES! 😱 Intrigued cause this is entirely a problem solving exercise - with no right answers, just a dress. I would have done it completely opposite (except the shopping!) so now I should make it so I can see if it works. These videos show how different peoples process is, there’s no one way to do stuff. Except playing dead, definitely go with the possum model!
