*CHRISTOCENTRIC MEAL* *DR ABEL DAMINA* *TUESDAY MAY 03, 2022* *WHAT IS PRAYER?* *Mark 11: 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.* Prayer is making your desires known to the father. It also means to make a strong appeal or a fixed request of what you desire. This implies that prayer cannot be by thinking, words have to be spoken. It is an activity carried out in reverence by man. Philippians 4: 6 be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. By prayer and supplication, let your request, that is your desire be made known unto God. The words prayer and supplication refer to the same thing, it is to make petitions or come before a higher authority with your request. This was used earlier in chapter 1. Philippians 1:4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, Romans 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. Prayer involves verbalizing our desires, to speak forth our request unto God. Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. God expects that we make a request, He wants us to ask him. PRAYER: Today pray for something specific, you desire. Make a request to God.

The character of God, as understood in various religious traditions, especially within the context of Judeo-Christian belief, is a rich and multifaceted concept that reflects divine qualities, attributes, and nature. Here are some key aspects of God's character as described in Scripture and theology: 1. God is Holy Holiness means that God is entirely separate from sin, pure, and morally perfect. His holiness is the standard for goodness and righteousness. In the Bible, God's holiness is a foundational attribute, especially emphasized in texts like Isaiah 6:3 ("Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory"). 2. God is Love Love is perhaps the most profound and central characteristic of God’s nature. In the New Testament, 1 John 4:8 states, "God is love." This reflects God’s unconditional, sacrificial love toward humanity, especially seen in the person of Jesus Christ. God's love is not based on human merit but is freely given to all people, regardless of their actions. 3. God is Just God’s justice means that He is perfectly fair and righteous in all His decisions. He upholds what is good, punishes evil, and ensures that His justice will prevail. This is balanced by His mercy, where justice and grace meet. Verses like Psalm 89:14 and Micah 6:8 emphasize both God's justice and His desire for humans to act justly and love mercy. 4. God is Merciful and Gracious God’s mercy involves His compassion and forgiveness toward humanity, despite our shortcomings and sins. He offers grace-unmerited favor-especially through the gift of salvation in Christ. In the Old Testament, God's mercy is repeatedly shown, such as in Exodus 34:6-7, where God describes Himself as "merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness." 5. God is Omnipotent God's omnipotence means that He is all-powerful, able to do anything consistent with His nature. He is the Creator of the universe and sustains all things by His will. This is evident in the creation narrative in Genesis 1 and the miracles throughout Scripture. 6. God is Omniscient God’s omniscience means He knows everything-past, present, and future. There is no limit to His understanding. In Psalm 139, David reflects on God's perfect knowledge of him, stating, "You have searched me and known me" (Psalm 139:1). 7. God is Omnipresent God’s omnipresence means He is present everywhere, not limited by time or space. He is intimately involved with creation and aware of all things. Psalm 139:7-10 expresses this truth, where David asks, “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?" 8. God is Faithful God's faithfulness refers to His unchanging nature and His commitment to His promises. He is trustworthy and will never abandon His people. In Lamentations 3:22-23, it says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” 9. God is Eternal God has no beginning or end. He is eternal and outside of time. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last (Revelation 22:13). His existence is not limited to a finite time frame, and He transcends the created world. 10. God is Sovereign God’s sovereignty means that He has absolute authority and control over all creation. Nothing happens outside of His will or without His knowledge. His reign is both active and benevolent. In Daniel 4:34-35, it is proclaimed that God’s kingdom endures forever, and He does as He pleases with the powers of heaven and earth. 11. God is Good The goodness of God implies that He is morally perfect, and all His actions are for the benefit of His creation. Psalm 34:8 invites us to "taste and see that the Lord is good." God's goodness is also displayed in His providence and in the beauty and order of creation. 12. God is Truth God is the ultimate source of truth, and His words are reliable and trustworthy. In John 14:6, Jesus declares, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” The Bible is viewed as God’s revealed truth, and He cannot lie (Titus 1:2). 13. God is a Redeemer God’s redemptive character is revealed through His plan of salvation, especially in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Christ provides a way for sinful humans to be reconciled to a holy God. This is the core of the Christian gospel. 14. God is Unchanging God is immutable, meaning He does not change in His nature, character, or purposes. This is a comfort to believers, knowing that they can rely on God's constancy. In Malachi 3:6, God says, "I the Lord do not change." 15. God is Personal God desires a personal relationship with His creation. He is not a distant or impersonal force but is intimately involved with the lives of those who seek Him. In the New Testament, through the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, God is shown to be relational and present, inviting humanity into fellowship with Him.
