Hi Christopher :-) The drawback from Osseointegration is the integrum system - it works yes, but the infection happens more with this system than it does with the ILP Osseointegration system. It has something to do with the protruding and the rod surface. ILP is faster to integrate with the bone.As well as with the rod size - only 8 cm long. I have a rather long stump and 8 cm will never suffice and it will lead to a break if I trip as the contact surface is too small. Therefore ILP is the best solution for me. The rod size is 16 cm long. But you have a shorter stump so a smaller rod works perfectly for you! I have been following you since I was amputated - I needed to see that life continues and that I can live on without my leg -You are truly an inspiration! What you have done with yourself, Lindhe Extension is freaking awesome! I salute you and congratulations on the Entrepreneurship of the year - well deserved!

Mr Christoffer, I do not enjoy your videos but they are informative and educational. Thank you for making them. I think Osseointergration is the future of prosthetics. I am from the UK and in this country one has to pay for osseointergration and the cost is exorbitant. As a disabled person who has lost pelvis muscle I am not suitable for prosthetics (NHS). I would normally say 'nothing is as good as the legs you are born with', but for those of us who have had a particular bad day (for whatever reason) psychological adaptation is tough and something that I have been through. No doubt you have as well. It is good that your osseointergration is helping you to live your life. I wish you all the best.

Thanks mate I'm about to have stage 2 (c cup inserted) and have only 8cm of femur so seeing yourself with such a great review has given me confidence. I've been worried about the 8cm being enough to support the implant

Thanks man! I'm sure things will work out great for you with the osseointegration. Easier said than done is to be gentle with the osseointegration in the beginning to let the healing process have it's time

@ChristofferLindheTripleAmputee absolutely agree mate. Due to circumstances around my surgery (first public patient in Australia to have osseointergration completely covered by Medicare which is the free medical cover provided by the we government in Australia) it was decided due to my implant surgery being at the start of summer my surgeon and the team decided 2 stage surgery was the best option, Due to the open wound in summer here it gets to 45°c so not a good idea. So the first stag we was in November 2022 and stage two is on the 28th Tuesday so 2 more days then stage two then a long slow recovery and rehab. I've not walked for 10 years as my femur is only 8cm so socket prosthesis just wasn't an option. Im Just blessed that Dr Andrew Wines from Sydney Australia seen a need for people like me that can't use a socket and can't afford osseointergration because of one greedy surgeon named munjed almederis... thanks for your well wishes. Mate you are one tuff dude

How did you break the peg? and OMG how much did that hurt? I'm feeling the pain because I'm above knee amputee due to a car accident at age 19 which was 48 years ago! It hurts so much when I accidently bump end of my femur as I don't seem to have a lot of padding around it! I currently don't wear a prosthesis but I am looking into the new advances. I quit wearing my leg 25 years ago due to the fact that I was far more comfortable on crutches than on a prosthesis. But I only lost one leg so that makes it easy! You are doing amazing and all the power to you for how far you've come and overcome! I'm grateful for every day as well! I'm trying to do research on comfortable sockets currently as that is the make it or break deal for doing well as you know! I'm intrigued by the Infinite Socket - sounds like a big improvement from past sockets! Anyhow appreciate your videos and hearing how you are doing! I like the idea of calling the date of accident your survival day! You won the life lottery that day for sure! It's amazing how sometimes everything just comes together! Continued success and making all your dreams come true!! I'm from Alberta/Canada!

Thank you very much for your comment. It hurts indeed and quite a lot but the pain also ends quickly thankfully. As I say in the video, I think osseointegration is a great solution if the socket isn’t working somehow. Best of luck with your research, if you publish please send me a link, I’m always curious about research in this field

THis is one of the reasons why osseointegration is not reliable.
@mburke2853 жыл бұрын
Reliable enough. It's more prone to serious infection. Wearing a traditional socket can lead to irritation and infection as well. Whatever works for the patient.

I just saw this video and hope you’re still responding. I’m considering osseointegration for myself as I’m a unilateral AKA. For the first few years I was able to wear a socket without TOOOOO much trouble (still had plenty of blisters and constantly back for changes and new sockets!) but over the past five years I’ve really struggled. I cannot keep a socket on to save my life anymore. Between sweating that results in my liner falling off, sensitive skin and volume fluctuations that result in my socket falling off mid stride (pretty embarrassing in the middle of Munich!!) I can’t walk more than about 50-100 meters without losing my leg. This looks like a great option but I have a couple concerns. This might sound stupid but how bad would you rate the immediate post operative pain compared to the initial amputation? I remember the amputation very clearly so know what to expect there but I don’t know what to expect with this. I have many severe drug allergies so my only option for post operative pain management is paracetamol (Tylenol/Acetaminophen). This wasn’t much fun after my amputation but I know I can handle it again... I’m not sure how bad this will be though and I’m not finding any sources for information. Also, how bad is the pain during recovery when you are beginning to load the implant?
@ChristofferLindheTripleAmputee3 жыл бұрын
Hi Meranda! This is a very hard question for me to answer because there is definitely pain after the surgery. Not as much (in my case) as after the amputation, but I also got stronger painkillers so that’s why it’s hard for me to answer.

@@ChristofferLindheTripleAmputee actually I do have another question... how do you find the cold affects you with the implants? Using a socket prosthesis my stump always freezes something terrible during the winter! It gets so cold it goes numb and turns white, no matter what clothes I wear. I’ve taken to using an electric ski boot heater inside my liner to keep my stump from freezing. Do you find the implant conducts heat and cold too well? Does it make you feel the cold more in winter and the heat more in summer?

Sam Sammy I’ve heard that it costs approximately £150k for Osseointergration surgery. I know a few amputees that flew out to Australia to have their surgery. It’s not available in the UK on the NHS but the amputees I met went privately. I hope this helps
@merandareast25523 жыл бұрын
@@samsammy1745 look up the OPRA system in Sweden. They have contact information. There is also a site called Osseointegration Europe or something similar and they help connect you with hospitals. I just recently saw that it’s 50.000 - 60.000€ if all goes well. You have travel, out of hospital accommodation, meals and so on as well though and some hospitals require you to stick around throughout your recovery while others allow you to do your recovery at home. Look them up and contact them for information specific to you.
