When I was a kid, I got teased a lot because I listened to this music from the 70's and 80's. I am a black kid listening to Christopher Cross. Music to me was never about black or white. Good music is good music no matter what color of the skin is. I am glad that this brother sees what I see.

He posted it to Facebook, too. A friend of mine who is a pro guitarist (hired gun player) got to play a split bill show with Christopher, and says he's the nicest guy, too. Doesn't get much better than that, no big head about the guy at all. Christopher is a MUCH better guitarist himself than he gets credit for. The entire "Christopher Cross" debut album is a gem and well worth picking up. Stellar musicianship all around, a KILLER list of players and guests on it, and it sounds amazing, too, very well engineered.

@@valyum5504 Interestingly enough "Sailing" was John Lennon's favorite record at the time. He was learning to sail and he was very much into our music. I was told this personally by an assistant engineer that worked with Lee DiCarlo who was Lennon's producer on Double Fantasy. Lee has also said as much in print.

@@TommyTaylorOfficial Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought an artist would respond to a comment of mine. The wonder of KZbin. Thank you for telling me about how John Lennon felt about the music that helped to heal me. There's some powerful feels to Sailing. I hope Jamel gives it a listen. Thanks for all the music you make.

Another great song that I put in the "soft rock" genre from the 70's and early 80's. During that time all these guys were connected in the LA studio scene and played on each others tunes, bands like Doobie Brothers and Michael McDonald, Chris Cross, Toto, Boz Scaggs, etc. The great era of soft rock.

"Ride Like The Wind" spent four consecutive weeks at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- first peaking on 04-26-1980. This great song was prevented from becoming a #1 hit for Christopher Cross by Blondie's "Call Me" from the movie "American Gigolo." "Call Me" spent six consecutive weeks at #1, a feat matched in 1980 by only one other song -- Kenny Rogers' "Lady."

Oh damn, brings back memories of when I was young. I was a huge Cris Cross fan, but an even bigger Blondie fan, so a worthy rival for #1. Too damn bad though, because Ride like the Wind is a better song, but Blondie was gorgeous and had amazing stage presence.

Here is a little tidbit I bet most of you don't know...... Christopher Cross started a long time ago in the early to mid 1970s playing with a Houston local band named Heather Black at Village Inn Pizza Parlor on Market Square in downtown Houston. When I was in high school we all used to go drink beer, eat pizza and dance to them until 2 am in the morning. It was one of several places in Houston that didn't check IDs and had great live music....LOL... Heather Black was so good that almost every high school in Houston had them play at their proms and at school dances....We sure did. I guess we weren't the only people who liked his singing.....Around 1979 he got a record deal, left Heather Black and released his first "bigtime" album....and the rest was history......Grammys....Acadamy awards.....yadda...yadda....yadda. Guess everyone's gotta start somewhere??
