"Sailing" by Christopher Cross is simply one of the most beautiful songs ever written. The lyrics read like poetry. The melody is transcendant. Christopher's voice is angelic, and the musical arrangement is brilliant. You don't just hear this song... you experience it. The sound of the instruments transport the listener to imagine themselves being gently carried away at sunset. The lyrics describe so much more than a pleasant moment. Far more importantly, they describe THE WAY IT MADE YOU FEEL. The phrase: "Takes me away to where I always heard it could be." That says it all. My final comment: Look at the words he included in the lyrics: "Paradise" "Tranquility" "Miracles" and "Innocence." It's no wonder we all love this song so much. This song sounds like somewhere we all long to be. Heaven.

Love your writing. It's so, sooooooo very eloquent and ever so apropos. This is the second time that I am reading it. You hit the nail on the head. I've now accustomed myself to listening to him sing this every single night, to help drown out my troubles and all the stressors of life. It's THEEEEE ABSOLUTE PERFECT and BEST way to end the day and go to sleep.

@@kashaglazebrook AW! So sweet to hear you say that! Thank you so very much for those very kind words! You made my day! I used to write record reviews for a Canadian music trade magazine called RPM Weekly. It was created in 1964 by Walt Grealis and served as a famous charts magazine for radio and the recording industry in Canada. My beautiful dad Noel, was taken from me in a car accident when I was 14, it’s been a very long trip away without you. My dad built and sailed his own catamaran in Papua New Guinea, were we grew up, I always get emotional listening to this song, as I imagine my dad who was so full of joy and a zest for life like my mum was, I don’t believe in heaven however I like to think your spirit that is deep inside of me and my passions and joy for living and sucking the marrow out of life! I thank you dad for the short amount of time we had together! I am finally the man at 50 I wished to become because of you and mum!

I'm getting sick and tired of you old people insulting this generation. Your generation has it's positives, and its negatives. My generation has its positives and its negatives. No million-dollar stages to be used once and dismantled? Who cares? The fans get what they want in the end, don't they? Technology back then wouldn't ALLOW it. No fireworks? No twerking? I'm pretty sure concerts back then had fireworks, and I'm pretty sure people were doing weird ass dances back then. No weird costumes or fashion statements, just a plain shirt and old jeans? Tell that to Freddie Mercury. Tell that to Led Zepplin and Guns N' Roses with whom their lead singers would do concerts sometimes without a shirt on. Tell that to Madonna and her music videos. Tell that to Queen and some of their music videos. Gyms, plastic surgery clinics and dieticians? Those things existed back in the 80's. Celebrities were doing these things at the time. No scandals on twitter and facebook? Had social media existed back then, it would have. Scandals existed back then, there just wasn't a medium where the country could ACCESS it. No autotunes? Autotune had it's time for a little bit, and almost no artist uses it. It's died out for the most part. Shut the fuck up.
@goytabr8 жыл бұрын
AJ Christopher, in addition to being extremely rude and unable to tolerate different opinions (neither of which is flattering to you), you completely missed the point. First of all, I never insulted your generation - I did deplore some of today's practices in music and entertainment, which are consumed by people of all ages. That includes valuing more the form or "packaging" over the content, and providing an "experience" that is very formulaic and repetitive and that leaves little room or concern for real artistic talent. In particular, your point that "fans get what they want in the end" is not exactly true - they get what industry executives manipulate them to want and get, while real talent struggles in indie niches. I'll be the first to admit that this has existed for a long time, but it has never been as overwhelming as today. Yet a rare exception like Adele, who runs against all those trends and thrives solely on her talent (as Christopher Cross did), gets over a billion views of her latest video clip. Finally, yes, there was plastic surgery and all in the 1960s, '70s and '80s, and "Singing in the Rain", a movie from the 1950s, already showed some questionable practices in the entertainment industry, but it was *optional* at that time. Now it's practically mandatory and that makes a lot of difference.
