The fact that Chris is aware of the "Doctor-lite" episodes being a tradition in the modern series suggests that he must've kept watching the show after he left it. I could be wrong, but I doubt it would be mentioned a whole lot to him by the fans. Even if he only watched the show partially, it shows that he never truly fell out of love with Doctor Who itself, but rather was driven away by the politics on-set during his tenure. Then you hear how passionate he is about the scripts in Series 1 despite his bad experiences while shooting them, and it just reaffirms this idea even more. I'm thrilled that he returned for the Big Finish audios too. I've listened to his first four audio sets and they're just incredible! Chris is the Doctor and he is fantastic!

He deserves to get a second and third series. Sack RTDavros, sack Julia Gardner, and sack all the other higher ups that screwed him and the production crew over

The scene in the same episode where he goes back to the Tardis and it's just an ordinary box. That little freak out moment as though it was the last thing in the world he would have expected. The way he treats Rose as well. Even though he knows there's dire consequences for what she's done, he still understands. "Just tell me you're sorry." And they make up. You forget they're acting, it's so genuine and warm. I'd say my own favourite Eccleston episode was Dalek. As he gets more and more worked up and into a tunnel vision focused solely on killing it, it starts coming out of it's primal directive and by the end they've both reversed their positions. He's pointing a cannon at the pathetic little octopus which has laid down it's arms and broken out of it's shell to feel the sunlight. Thanks also to Rose's intervention, he snaps out of it and realises what he's letting himself become.

Bravo! Rightly said. That episode was perfect. Christopher Eccleston burned fast, but burned bright.

Yes. That's the episode when I finally became certain everything would be okay with the relaunch. I cheered with delight when the Dalek's midsection did a 180-degree turn!

That episode was sheer brilliance. Ecclestone's performance was electrifying. Worth paying attention to the Big Finish version, where the original script is done, and it's for the 6th Doctor - the idea is there, but the TV version perfects it.

i was sure he was going to name this one as his favorite... it's the best of season 1, not because of its monster of the week, but because it's the one who deals the best with human emotions. Simple as that.

I never really considered father’s day as a “doctor lite episode”, it just had a story that focused on rose but did feature the doctor still. The doctor lite tradition started the following year because due to the limited time they had for filming, the production had to film two episodes at the same time. This resulted in love and monsters being filmed while David and Billie were filming the beast two parter.

I mean, I assume actors are very critical about their own work, so I can certainly see how he might enjoy the episode where he had the least involvement in. They are human after all, I am sure they too sometimes cringe at videos of themselves.

He’s objectively correct though, the two episodes he named were the best ones in his entire run

I read his autobiography and he really details a complex, sad relationship with his Dad who passed from dementia. Certain things in media definitely touches us differently depending on life experience, so I completely see why he enjoyed that episode.
