Christopher Franke is one of my absolute favorite sci-fi composers. There's something very special about his music especially in the B5 series that no other sci-fi has (for me), I think it's a beautifully accomplished sense of mystery, excitement, uncertainty and cosmic beauty. Every B5 track is just amazing, in my opinion. They range from soothingly mysterious and calm to dramatically powerful and they're all full of a wide range of emotion. Just my opinion, of course, but felt like sharing.

His music is what put the emotion into the show in ways that words cant even begin to express

Heard someone playing a sound bite of this on their phone at StarBucks the other day. I recognized it in an instant due to C Franke's work is so unique. Ended up striking up a 2 hour conversation with the person about the show and musical talent.

This is, genuinely, one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.

As a fan of Starcraft 1 this is nice to listen to.

is it related to starcraft somehow?
@johanneshaukanes4531 Жыл бұрын
@@treehann No. Its from Babylon 5 I read in the description now. But the space scenes in that series looks like the scinematics in Starcraft 1. Maybe the music doesnt sound that musch like starcraft. But im pretty shure there is other games that have similar music. I just got some Starcraft 1 vibes from this.

This track is very similar to track 7 "In Julie's Eyes" from Tangerine Dream soundtrack for "Miracle Mile."
@jamesowens71765 жыл бұрын
Yep. Noticed that immediately. Interesting that CF was not involved in "Miracle Mile". It's been rumored that Paul Haslinger (who WAS involved with Miracle Mile) helped out CF on some of the Babylon 5 work (uncredited). This lends credence to that. Also CF was credited with providing orchestrations and arrangements for Haslinger's "Planetary Traveler", which has some thematic similarities to the B5 soundtracks.

Great piece! "Babylon 5" is certainly a sci-fi classic, no doubt in part due to Chris Franke's soundtrack.

Chris Franke is one of the best musicians out there. Listened to this song while reading Mark Z. Danielewski's book The Familiar. Song fits in perfectly with that book. It sounds magically weird, just like the book, and both are both in that sci-fi/fantasy mix. Watched first two seasons of Babylon 5 while reading the book, and an association between them was made.

Christopher Franke should be involved with the Crusade 1999 series if you ask me. What a pity that he wasn`t.
@WakemanFan9013 жыл бұрын
@Scifimaster92 Yeah, i agree on that one! "Near Dark" is a very good album, and probably easy to get some ideas from. Besides, Franke has this "sound" to his songs that makes them unique, it can be recognized everywhere
@Scifimaster9213 жыл бұрын
@WakemanFan90 Speaking of which, have you noticed that the soundtrack to the 1987 film "Near Dark" by Tangerine Dream (of which Franke was a member at the time) sounds very similar to that of "Babylon 5"? (At least it does to me.)

Beautiful pictures of the Universe. It is really sad and ironic for us to be able to view something so beautiful, The Universe, and not be able to travel and explore it. There has got to be a way for FTL propulsion. It would be so sad if the human race spends it's entire natural history stranded upon one little tiny planet.

A quote from the end of the episode Babylon 5 S01 E04 - Infection: "Mary Ann Cramer: I have to ask you the same question people back home are asking about space these days. Is it worth it? Should we just pull back? Forget the whole thing as a bad idea, and take care of our own problems, at home. Cmdr. Jeffrey Sinclair: No. We have to stay here. And there's a simple reason why. Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes, and - all of this - all of this - was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." As far as our reality (propulsion, exotic materials etc.) is concerned well... there are many avenues that are being explored.
