It's true, not in his job description, but that's fine ain't it? That's not part of his tremendous legacy anyway. Where as Aquinas and Augustine are philosophers, but their teachings are pretty much complete garbage depends on who you asks.

For someone as smart as yourself it must be pretty easy to do. I was impressed when Hitchens did it, but based on how intelligent you are I would be greatly interested in hearing you do it. Maybe you could upload some videos enlightening us idiots? At least could you point me to any of your books or speeches so that I can have an example of someone who is truly intelligent instead of a "stupid mans smart person". That phrase alone shows me how dizzying your intellect is. Please bequeath your knowledge unto us peasants!

immortal champion. I doubt very much he had a phobia of Islam. “Islamaphobe” is a made up buzz word for anyone who’s not a follower of the faith and says so. Should we call anyone not subscribing to Catholisism a Catholicphobe or put “phobe” behind anyone with views different to ourselves?

I'm an atheist because of his speeches. Amazing command over the English language, always debated with sincerity and not to mention winning every argument against a theist . :) Have a nice life buddy.

Hitch was such a brilliant, witty orator. He pulled relevant quotes out of thin air often and came up with his own brilliancies in nearly every debate or speech. I am so thankful for the Internet so that we can continue to see him and to have his particular brilliance shared with future generations.
@tommonk7651
@tommonk7651 7 жыл бұрын
I disagreed with him for his support of the Iraq War, but he primarily turned his attention to the fight against theism the last 10-15 years of his life. In that fight, he was correct and earned my admiration. Hitch was blinded by the friendships he had in Iraq, Iran and other places. He was not perfect, but I don't expect people to be perfect. Did he lie about theism? Did he lie about Mother Theresa? On these and many other subjects, Hitch spoke the truth.

Hitchens is one of few people that I feel the world truly is a worse place since his death, and I sincerely mean that. I don't agree with him on foreign policy issues but in terms of his stance on religion, a man of his caliber is rarely seen. Of course, you have Dawkins, Krauss, and others, but a man with such rhetoric who spoke so intelligently yet easily to understand has not been matched, in my opinion.

He will be missed and long remembered as one of the great intellects and debators of the 20th/21st centuries. But more than that, his call for intellectual honesty in the search for truth and the pursuit of genuine morality, not derived from the patently hateful commands from an imagIned father figure from ancient ignorants, is a magnificent and enlightening legacy.

As a Christian who would, it seems, disagree with Hitchens on just about everything, I have to say that he was easily my favorite unbeliever to listen to. It wasn't that I found him convincing. I didn't. It was just that he was so witty and was willing to take up certain positions which were not the "right" ones for him to take. He was a thinker, a wordsmith, and in his own brusque way, a gentleman. I was sincerely saddened when he passed.

Dont worry. You only condemn him to eternal hellfire and damnation, through which there is no escape or remorse. And just think, according to your faith, when you die you get to enjoy the privilege of watching him and all of us other non believers burn for eternity. You do believe that, correct? Youre not a Christian if you dont. So kind of you to want others to suffer forever so you can be special and go to Heaven. All we non believers have to do is surrender, capitulate entirely, to someone who never made themself known to us. Ill have no trouble believing in your space-dwelling zombie-jew god-king if he ever takes time out of his busy schedule doing fuck from all for anyone to make a single divine showing. If only I was born a few thousand years ago when he was doing miracles every few years, and his son was in the flesh visiting us. Fucking idiot.

Now he likes a christian, why he's even a friend. To all who worship Hitch, learn from a dying man. Remember you are in fact dying. @TheYopogo
@TheYopogo 9 жыл бұрын
There are a very small number of pockets of rising complexity, our brains would be the foremost example of that that we're aware of, but if you were to average it out over the whole universe then entropy and disorder is increasing. Take our solar system, just to illustrate the point. Yes, there is the rising complexity of life, but all life depends for it's survival, and for its fight against entropic decay, upon either geo-thermal energy, that is the slow leaking of heat from the inside of the earth into the exterior, or the light of the sun which can only be produced by the expulsion of vast amounts of energy and plasma from the magnificent nuclear explosion that is the sun into the void of inter stellar space. The only way structure can form and entropy can decrease in a system is if it is balanced out and then some by another process in another system that it's in contact with

+ffp08 Well, the theory is that life on earth was kickstarted by simple organisms originating from one of the many comets that hit it after formation, so he sort of has a point. If you disagree, then both 14 and 4 billion are entirely too long.

+annagrace It's not just that. As one who has faced death, I can confirm what many others have said. It kind of gives you a different perspective on things. You may be less inclined to worry about the small things. Oh, you may forget, if you get well, but hopefully you don't forget completley.

I'd like to think of myself as an emotionally "strong" individual, however ignorant that may be...but while watching this video, I found myself very near tears...I can only hope that the knowledge and spirit of Christopher Hitchens will continue to affect the human race...it can not be put into words, how this man has selflessly attributed towards TRUTH.

I Love this man. his ability to articulate so amazingly what I have always felt but could never express, or dream to express so eloquently. He was gone too soon (as all the greats are). But through the search for unapologetic truth, the Hitch will reincarnate, resurrected with every click of a KZbin Video, every flip of a page of one of his many books. This was a great man. A great, great man.

Great in that he had a life which encompasses more than trolling peoples positive comments on youtube, attempting to dissect them (by counting words) and then asking a smug question. But to play along, alow me to answer this one time. Great Author, Great debater, Great intellectual thinker and Greatly courageous to speak so openly and honestly on a topic that gets him death threats. I can go deeper into how I think he is great in other ways, but I'm done with you.

lol. Ad hominem comments on KZbin - how unique and original of you. I don't worship anyone, and I think my comments are abundantly clear - I'm a huge fan of Hitchens. But I would still be better of worshiping Hitchens than being some self righteous condescending prick on KZbin - just another unoriginal sheep. But people like you are pretty much all the same. Smart behind a keyboard - cowards in life. You are a cliche. Ask yourself why you care so much about who you think I worship? But I'll give you a gift, I'll let you reply and even get the last word in. Have at it.

He is right too, in practicality believers and non-believers can get along just fine. Its the people who do things because NOW demands it! because NOW is the moment, they are the real heroes of the human race, not the people thinking posthumously or about posterity.

Living forever is infinitely worse than oblivion. Oblivion is much more comforting to people who take time to think about the prospect of living forever. Inevitable boredom, insanity, the inability to ever leave and finally rest. Ever since I've been an atheist, I haven't been afraid of death. It's to be expected, frankly. I'm delighted to know that when my time comes, I'll not be forced to stay. An afterlife is always a hell.
