Back in the day when I was in high school I was in love with dark art and enjoyed making pieces like this (never as amazing as yours of course), but every adult around me used to tell me that I would never become an artist drawing this. I began to draw cartoons and everything else that makes people approved and made them happy. I never became an artist. I have never been happy. For some reason watching you and looking at your amazing art has make me believe I should of never listen to them and I should of created what was in my heart. I'm 46 years old now and I wonder, is it too late? Thanks you so much for sharing. You are an amazing artist and a great inspiration. Thanks again.

I've only started to draw seriously about 3 years ago. The nice thing about drawing is the more you do it, the better you become. It's a lifelong process of learning, observation and finding inspiration. I can tell you Christopher, only by watching that video I'm already getting better lol:)

"Your just naturally gifted" completely disavows the countless hours artists put into their craft. Anything you do on a daily basis will make you better at it. I have also been an illustrator and artist close to my whole life. Deliberate Practice makes you a great artist. Repetition makes you a great artist. If your born with anything, its the patience to keep up at something long enough to be proficient enough to then build off that initial success. You could absolutely learn to be an artist. Just know it will be a painful process but ultimately worth it. People who start young have that stubborn energy to keep at it. The older we get the quicker we want our work to "prove" it was worth our time away from kids, work and life in general. The fact remains with the proper training guide for deliberate practice and daily focused effort, you can make something creative that you are proud of. For example draw a flower everyday for 15 min. The end of the week you will be better at it. You will then hit a wall, THAT is the moment most stop. Watch some artists on KZbin, get tips. Give it another week. In a month you will have something you can draw in your arsenal. Repeat. Dont be afraid to make absolute garbage. Every artist makes shit he wont show anyone. Keep it to yourself and keep at it. Its not magic, or god or a genetic lottery. Its hard work staring at the uncertainty of a blank page and getting good enough to wrestle it into something great. We are all born artists and creatives. Its so hard to hear people downplay their own possible talents when they look at art they appreciate. Its a new world online with endless free lessons and artist that would love to help you make something. Or inspire you to keep going at the very least. Sometimes that is enough. Thanks for your time.

2:33 I looove those fabercastells! It's cool that you use a large variety of supplies. I'm the same way but don't see as many 'tubers who do. Most are painters or digital or primarily use copic markers, not that there is anything wrong with that, I just like finding youtubers who fit my niche. 3:56 Thanks for the heads up on the white paint marker. 5:22 I 100% agree with that, I like my blacks to have a range of darkness. 12:00 and it starts to come together! In my thirty years of life, always a creative life, I never thought of just pencil art. I'm sick with pencil and then bam ruin it with coloring/painting it in. Loose all the perfect detail and shading I did with the pencil. Idk man u Inspired me to just try to finish the peice with only graphite(and grey scale markers and happens to be the only kind I have lol).. I'm excited. Thank you.
@LovellArt5 жыл бұрын
Jay geo thank you!! Yes I find it kinda hard to stick to only graphite on a drawing, I find the addition Of some light grey markers and fine liners can really bring an extra dynamic to pencil. That's fantastic: rich and detailed, great design work, and nice use of pure blacks. One small issue would be the shoulder area: the way you have used the backlight line makes it look a bit flat. Loving this, and the detail. I too try and not draw/paint too much detail/realism, but have only recently realised, that that is my natural style, so why try to draw 'loosely'? It feels so nice to embrace it, rather than fight it.
@LovellArt7 жыл бұрын
I totally know what you mean. I try to stay loose, but If something doesn't please my eye I listen to my self and see if a bit of realism helps. Its hard finding a balance! I try and keep backgrounds scrappy and textured so I can feel spontaneous!

I have about four different attempts at this particular drawing. All at different stages of completion from when I started practicing art. There's one that has potential so I think I'll make something out of it eventually. Cheers man🍻

I am totally blown away! Do you have a professional company scan your originals for printing? I could only dream of having such talent. So freaking cool!
@LovellArt7 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! This one was small enough for me to scan in and adjust/put together in photoshop. Larger paintings I have a professional take a very large long exposure photograph. Its crazy how the photo is just as good as a scan, you can zoom in for ages!

1. Awesome artwork. Very cool. Fun to see you play with all the various mediums. 2. My favorite part was the chains under the mouth. After doing all the details, I think you went over it with a mid tone pen to recess it. very cool. 3. One thing missing was like shadows from all the different items on top of eachother.. like the bird, the staff.. in the end, I noticed it looked like there should be shadows or something. I don't think it mattered much though, because the image is so overall mystical and cool. --have you ever checked out Bernie Wrightson's art?

moonblink thanks buddy! Glad you liked it! It's funny that you say that about the shadows, I have only just noticed that now you've mentioned it. I just didn't think about doing it at the time I guess. sometimes that's the risk when drawing without any references for lighting etc. New video coming in the next few days!! And nO I haven't heard of him, I'll give him a Google :)
