Hi Paul I am an old Irish guy also.. living the west coast of Ireland.. was taken by your comments.. I was a seafarer for most of my life.. a sea captain. I first visited Australia in 1964 Melbourne when I was a teenager and had a great time there it was the time of the swill hour when the pubs were open for two hours only- no passports needed for seafarers in those days.. young people today have no idea. Id heard of Aslan about 15 years ago. Was kinda a passing take it or leave thought. But started to find out more about Christy in the last few years. This is a sad and true song. Everyone should hear this song at least once and it reminds me of all those who suffered and died doing what they believed was a war to end all wars. The words in this song tell everyone why we salute those who fought for freedom. Brilliant song, sung so well and the haunting tone of the accordion works so well.
