Talking and taking down my daughter's braids is a perfect opportunity to chat about what's going on in her life. The one-on-one time with her helped me learn about what's going on in school, with friends, and what her current goals are. I am all about encouraging adoptive families to bond through haircare. Sure you can take your daughter to a salon, but I feel learning will show her self-worth and that it's not too much for you to handle. No adopted child should ever feel they're a burden. Haircare is an amazing way to bond and teach hair love!

I love this, I have 2 adopted children, boy and girl siblings and I do my daughter’s nails and hair but I taught her how to take out her own hair, it’s a life saver, if I do it she has to take it out, she’s 13 now..

You are amazing. Your children are so lucky to have a mum that will learn about afro hair and do so many beautiful styles. You are right it is a great time to have conversations with your children and catch up. My 21 year son in last year at university and have not seen him since Christmas because we were on holiday. his hair is so long and beautiful. He pulled out his twist and I washed his hair, blow dried it and gave him some big plaits and prepared his hair last night to go to hairdressers today. Then the barbers to shave sides and tidy beard. Its a long process because his hair is so thick and long. This is a great time to see how he is doing without too many nosey questions and get him to open up. I love the bond. I dont have any daughters but its just as hard dealing with afro hair. I have taken some of your advice in combing from bottom and moisturising his hair like how you do with your girls. His hair is silky and down to his back. I was surprised on how much its grown when I blow dried it the length is around 16 inches and so healthy. I gave him a trim too. Thats him in profile pic when 3 years but hair has grown so much since. He had it cut for primary school, grew it when in year 8 cut it again then took around a year to grow back around 12 inches. I enjoy mother son talk when I wash, moisturise his hair around every 6 to 8 weeks. His university is in England and around 2.5 hours train journey from home.

Avaya took me out when she said, “mom you were so young.” Your mom is not your age but she is still young. Being young is a state of mind.😂 It takes very special people to raise, care for and love children that are not biological children. Loving your children to make sure you provide them the best possible life is everything! All children deserve and need awesome parents like you and Ed!
